Comments on a LH-52R1P-187

I'm wanting some feedback on a LiteOn LH-52R1P-187 drive, which is about the only LiteOn drive available in my area.

And how would you compare the Liteon to the LG GCE-8527B-BK unit? Any preference for one over the other? Why?

CD-RW-drives are rare here in Germany, because nobody buy it. And DVD-CD-RW-Combo-drives cost almost the same as DVD-writers

Well, thanks guys for at least responding. My main interest in a CD-RW drive is because my LG DVD combo drive is so sloooooow reading/writing to CD-RW media compared to my old Liteon 52246 drive. And I miss being able to format CD-RW discs with Mt. Rainier. I was toying with the idea of replacing my LG CD-ROM drive with one of those two CD-RW drives. Both the Liteon and LG models I mentioned are only $20+ Cdn so I thought it would be worth the money.

At this point, I don't think it matters which CD-RW drive you buy. Since CD writing technology has been around for a long while, the manufacturers have pretty much perfected all the little nuances. OK, nothing is perfect, but you get my drift. As opposed to DVD writing technology, which is newer, and the manufacturers are still working out some kinks.

Between the LG and LiteOn CD burners, I say flip a coin. I've always liked LG CD burners, in fact, I still have a few that function superbly. On the other hand, I know that LiteOn burners are very fast rippers, one example is the LTR-52246, which you have good experience with.

My last CD-RW I bought 2003 or so, a LG GCE 8523 or something.

The Liteon-drives are fast and good readers, but the mechanical is flumsy and teh drives arevery loud imho, so my vote goes to the LG

What´s the price in Canada for DVD-writers?

Thanks again for the replies. I have to admit, my LG DVD burner (GSA-H10N) has worked fine from day one with the exception of the slow reading/writing of formatted CD-RW media. And I have heard that the Liteon drive is loud. So, perhaps I'll give the LG a shot since it's only $1 more.

Just a report back.... bought, received and installed the LG GCE-8527B drive today and I must say, if nothing else, this thing is QUIET! Although my experience is no doubt woefully lacking compared to some of the more erudite people here when it comes to owning burners, this has got to be the quietest drive I have every owned. And, based upon just my perception, this drive is noticeably faster reading/writing a formatted CD-RW than its LG GSA-H10N DVD mate.

So, at this point I think I got my $31 Cdn (including $10 shipping) worth. I must admit I feel funny not having a Liteon drive any longer.

No, I haven't run any tests with media..... and to be honest, I'm not sure what tests to run. If you or someone else would be so kind as to tell me what/how, I'll be glad to do so and post screenshots and/or data of the results here.

Well, as I wrote before, I am more than willing to run some tests. But I don't know what application/utility to use to run the tests nor what tests to run. If you or someone else could tell me these things, I'll do it immediately, if no sooner.

I dunno whether u own a Benq DVD-writer, it´s a good drive for scan burned CD-R-media

Okay, I did the best I could with the sparse knowledge I have. I used Nero CD-DVD Speed w/ a Ritek Ridata CD-R disc. I haven't a clue how to read the results or how them fare/compare with a "good" CD-RW drive.
