Nero Soundtrax 2.0 Question

Hi,

I am new to the Nero Software and want to know how to use the Nero Soundtrax 2.0 software to transfer my old cassette tapes to CD. I connected the output of my tape deck to the "Aux-In" port on my Soundblaster Live Sound Card, but when I am in Soundtrax I don't see any input levels moving. How do I get this thing going??

I'd suggest picking up a Griffin iMic (USB device) and using the open source (free) Audacity. You'll get horrible results through a sound card line-in.

You want to connect the LINE OUT of your deck to the LINE IN of your PC.

If your mainboard has embedded sound, I'd disable the sound card and try the mainboard LINE IN first because I don't know what that AUX IN is, although it's probably OK.
Speaker out of your cassette deck won't do it.

Then in Nero SoundTrax look for "Insert" - "Import from Audio CD...."

You might have to play with volume sliders....it's been a while since I've
done it.

Did you "CLICK" on the red RECORD button?

Now for some real advice:
I gave up on it as too labor intensive. Not only is it a huge PITA to fool with it as it records, then you have to label, name and tag all the files manually.
So I quit doing that and if I have a cassette for which I want a CD,
I'll just buy the CD.

OTH, I really don't buy albums, like retail CDs anymore,
I just buy my songs one at a time for 99¢ nowadays.

And for good reason... The music industry today produces one/two-hit albums with fluff. It is very rare to find an album/artist today where you like all the tracks on the disc... The RIAA did this to themselves for the marginal talent "pretty faces" putting records out... BLAH!

Actually, ST, on the few cassettes that I ripped with Nero SoundTrax, the quality was not too bad.

Yes, I was lucky with one album for which I had no cassette, although one was most likely available.
But it was a jazz album that I bought 50 years ago as a 12" LP.
Not being "pop" music by a major label, it was all good songs - no filler.
I saw it five years ago as a CD and did not even hesitate to buy it.

But CDs are going the way of cassettes nowadays.
I'm ripping all my CDs and "burning" to SD cards for my SanDisk flash player.
I'm going to throw out my portable CD player but save its 2 AA cells.

I hope I'm not being misunderstood. I am not suggesting against SoundTrax, I have never used it. I am sure it produces acceptable results. I just found Audacity and used that for my needs. Here is a link to Audacity's howto on the subject. It's pretty basic and the concept can even possibly be applied to SoundTrax... though it looks like SoundTrax has a "wizard" approach to this function... I just opened it and poked around for probably the first time.
