First Verbatim DVD+RDL made in India reports

No, it's not mine... I *WANTED* it to be mine... but SOMEBODY (*cough*Ian*cough*) wouldn't buy me some to test when I asked him to...

The first person who picked up a spindle reported that it was full of badly scratched discs, and the scans later on posted by somebody else show results roughly on par (in my opinion) to some of the better CMC and Ritek DVD+RDL burns I've seen. However, it should also be mentioned that the discs were burned at 6x, and Ritek and CMC will never burn that fast. Also, it's really quite rare to see Ritek DVD+RDL that good, I think I've got one burn out of 30+ that was about that good. And I have better luck on that then most people :P

Yeah, well they ARE 2.4x rated, so it will be interesting to see a quality scan from a MII MKM001 disc burned at 2.4x.

Even that scan of the MII MKM001 burned at 6x really isn't that bad...

Sandpaper like scratches on the discs? Give us a freakin break Moser Baer!!!! That type of cr@p won't cut it for double layer media that costs > $1 per piece.

At least you guys aren't behaving like those racists zaq and cdpirate.. they went and started bad mouthing all Indian products over at CDF. Not done..

I´m not a enemy to MBIL, but they CD-R-media wasnt very good.

But I give them a chance when I see MII-Verbatim DL, but hope theres not only 50-pieces-packs avaible, because Verbatim DL is very expensive here

I picked up some of the Staple's brand MBI DVD-R discs for a review I'm working on (drive supports only MBI @ 18x.. wtf?) and the results have been surprisingly good.. for the drive and media.

I had Silvercircle/Intenso, some media become almost unreadable after a year and some months

In that case let me correct myself: INITIAL quality scans looked good on the Office Depot branded MBI CD-R media that I have tested with. I have NOT tested longevity or rescanned at later dates...

I rarely have CD-R-media that looks not good, with DVD-media I have more issues

I've had modern Ritek CD-Rs with C2 errors being reported right after burning them, and not even at rated speed, but at speeds like 24x or 16x even (which should be QUITE stable for those discs).

Oh, the Ritek from Ridata I use looks very stable @ 40x

Ritek CD-R is one of the better media I bought in the last years

I've seen a LOT of RiData CD-Rs go bad after only 2-3 years.... :o

The MBI CD-Rs I've used have held up well (MMORE 80 min and 90 min, Vision cheapos). They weren't stellar to start with, but some KProbe scan I made today don't differ that much from CD-Doctor or KProbe results from 4+ years ago (maybe 20% more C1's).

The RiTEK CDR's I've used have generally been excellent (Fuji, Maxell, TDK) and also have changed very little in the last 3-4 years. Mind you, these are quality media and the Fuji's were Made in Germany. I haven't bought any recently, though.

I can post some scans from 4 years ago and today, but that would be somewhat OT for a thread relating to DVD+RDL...

This is kinda off-topic, but when you say "C2 errors" do you mean E22 or E32?

I find that many combinations of CD-R media, burners, and burnspeeds produce CDs with E22 errors (scanned in Plextor or BenQ drives), but getting E32 errors is very rare and quite unacceptable.

It was scanned in a Plextor Premium, so it would be E22, because I did not get CU errors. However keep in mind that with audio CDs the whole second level of error correction is removed, and you are able to start hearing the difference with E22 errors. So on that level, I consider them quite unacceptable. Especially considering that Audio CD-Rs are pretty much all I burn CD-Rs for now (since DVDRs are so much cheaper!).

I bought a few more 20 packs of the Verbatim 2.4X Singapore DVD+R DL stuff and noticed the spindle labels now say up to 6X compatible instead of up to 8X like the old spindle labels. Same discs inside though. I think I will stock up at the next sale if the India stuff is going to be packaged in the 10 and 20 disc spindles in the future.

It is possible that they will only manufacture 2.4x rated double layer in India in the future though, so it might just be a good idea to stock up on 2.4x rated Verbatim double layer media now, if you need that speed double layer in the future...

That's a very good point. They could use their MII 2.4X stuff to compete with the low priced DVD+R DL competitors while keeping the faster stuff at a premium.
