Toshiba External DVD±RW/HD DVD-ROM - $269.99 @ Newegg

Newegg has Toshiba's external PA3530U-1HD1 DVD±RW/HD DVD-ROM drive on sale for $269.99 with free shipping. Not a bad deal considering it writes DVD's and comes with HD DVD playback software.

Hrm... so why not get the external $200 XBox 360 drive and a regular DVD burner for less?

Don't forget that Toshiba doesn't seem capable of making decent DVD burners anyways.

Yep, the Xbox HD DVD-ROM drive is still the only way to go until prices drop further...

Because this one is a heck of a lot smaller? Also, when you figure in the cost of HD DVD playback software, you're really not saving any money by going with the Xbox drive.

How much does the software cost?? I haven't looked into it at all yet.

Retail, it costs about $100 for a copy of WinDVD and PowerDVD that can play HD DVD and Blu-ray.
