Which Format Do You Think Will Succeed? Blu-ray or HD DVD?

I'll wait for a cheap dual player just like I did for high res audio. 1k for a player only is no good, my HDTV almost cost that. 500 is too high too.

I think such a price for a dual layer burner is over a year away (probably closer to 2).

well I'll be waiting right here Took about 2 years to get a DVDaudio/SACD player that was working and affordable. I want something I can make affordable, portable copies of my HDTV shows now...

When Sony wins just one of these format wars, I might be believe that BLU-Ray will be successful, I believe Tohsiba will be introducing and HDRW DVD Drive at the end of March, it will be interesting to see the interest in this ( and the price)

I can't say I'm too excited about Toshiba's HD DVD writers. 1x speeds and only write once support? Unless they're like $200, I'd have to pass. Considering they're not telling anyone the price, it will most likely be expensive.

Sony's succeeded formats:
Floppy Disk
CD
DVD (after they dropped their Philips/Sony format and joined with the DVD forum to collaborate and improve Toshiba's effort, which became DVD)
Betacam Oxide, SP, Digital, and SX (still *HIGHLY* used in the professional industry)
DVCam
HDCam
(Sony makes royalties on all the above)

Sony's non-success but non-failure formats:
MiniDisc (failed to take over, but still survived for quite some time in North America and Japan)

Sony's failure formats:
UMD
Memory Stick (could be argued as non-success/non-failure)

There are players that play both Blu Ray or HD.
I refuse to buy into either as I feel DVDs are more than enough quality for my needs.
