I was surprised to see the blue ray pricing below $500.. Frys could become the place to shop for hard drives and blue ray.

Hard drive pricing expires 2-20-07
Maxtor 320gb sata, $80 plus shipping.
Seagate 500gb external hard drive w/USB & firewire- $180 ships free.

Blue Ray:
Found a Litey LH-2B1S for $450 plus shipping.
And a Philips, model? for $500 plus shipping.

Anyone seen better pricing for the LiteOn? Good deal?

Yeah, that's a damn good price on the LH-2B1S considering Newegg wants $569.99 for it. Any idea if its retail or OEM? The lack of software might be the reason why its so cheap.

To make a long story short, the Frys.com's rep wasn't certain if the unit is oem or retail. The rep said call one of the stores with the item number so I did, the B&M sales rep said it's retail box with 1 year warranty, sata cable and software. It cost $100 more in the store,$550.

I'm tempted but I might hold off because I want a core2 duo system.

Is the LiteOn a good drive or is it still an unknown

Go for it! And if you deduct the cost of a decent DL writer you get the cost down to $410 for the blue ray writer. But, will the wife still love you :P

No wife to worry about :P

The only downside: I was going to be getting a Dell 24" flat panel with my tax refund...that drive would mean holding off of that for awhile :-?

Too many toys to get, too little money!

The reviews at CD Freaks and cdrinfo seemed favorable, but I haven't tested one so I can't comment. Neither seemed to mention that the drive writes to BD DL media at only 1x. Not a problem if you have 3 hours to spare.
