Driver devices not working

Postby amstandley on Wed Jan 31, 2007 2:36 pm

I bought a new DVD/CD burner because my old cd burner stopped working, or so I thought. Apparently, some device drivers are not working properly. When I look at my device manager there are two that say "Windows did not start this device driver because it can cause your computer to become unstable." I tried to call tech support for HP, Microsoft and Memorex, none of which would help me because its either not their issue or I am out of warrenty. So, here I am.

There are the two drivers that I can tell are having issues, only because this error message and a red "no" sign over the device icon. Is there anyway to get these working properly again?

c:windows\system32\drivers\CRD4_2K.sys
c:windows\system32\drivers\cdralw2k.sys

Suggestions?

Well, to make it short, I'd uninstall any CD/DVD burning applications, delete IDE/ATAPI Primary or Secondary channel from Device Manager and restart Windows.

I assume you've setup the new drive correctly, i.e. Master/Slave jumper...
