CDRLabs DVD Writer Poll - January

Postby Ian on Wed Jan 10, 2007 3:37 pm

Vote for what you think is the best, all around DVD writer. By doing so, you'll hopefully help those looking to buy a new drive. Once again, I tried to chose original drive designs that are currently available or will be soon.

Feel free to leave comments and an explanation as to why you voted the way you did. Also, if there's a drive you'd like to see added to the poll, let me know.

For reference, here's the top drives from December's poll:
1. Pioneer DVR-111/A11
2. LG GSA-H22N/L
3. (tied) Plextor PX-760A/760SA and Lite-On SHM-165H6S/165P6S
4. LG GSA-H12N/L
5. LG GSA-H10N/L/A

Yeah, yeah.. I'm late again with the poll. I'm sure you all noticed that I added a bunch of new drives that were released in the last month or so. If there are any I missed, please let me know.

The NEC ND-4570A/4571A and BenQ DW1670 have finally been dropped from the poll. Neither drive was very popular so I don't think anyone will be sad about that. Unless it gets a ton of votes, the Lite-On SHM-160H6S/160P6S will probably be dropped next month too.

I voted for the Lite-On SHM-165H6S/165P6S (again ). I like this drive- it's quiet, has more mature firmware then the newer LO models and comes with lots of (3rd party) tech toys for scanning etc. It's apparently not as good with CDs as some other drives seem to be, but I have my trusty LTR-48246S for that.

Long live the 6S series!

I gotta agree with you about the 6S series. Their new drives just aren't as polished. Then again, the 6S series wasn't that great when they were first introduced.

I voted for the LG H42L because I was very impressed from the burn-quality

Yeah, that looks good. Then again, they're testing it on a Lite-On.

Still the LG H22N for me, very happy with the burn quality.

The LG H22L is good, but I prefer my LiteON SHW-1635S over that... but the Pioneer DVR-111D still remains on top in my opinion :D

It's their new 16x drive. I think it uses the same drive design as the DW1800 and DW2000.

With only a day or so to go, it looks like the Pioneer DVR-111 is going to take it yet again. Doesn't anyone like the Sony NEC Optiarc drives?

I think NEC have not many fans atm, but I think the writers are not bad, but still not good as a Pioneer with same chipset

Wow.. DVR-111/A11 dominates yet again. Maybe Pioneer will bring the DVR-112 over if we stop voting for it?

February poll is up:
