Phoenix Anime Fest (the best con i have ever attended)

Postby yuki chan on Tue Dec 05, 2006 6:51 am

Well i was a staff member at Phoenix Anime Fest over this weekend, man was it the best con i have ever been. It was dwarfed by large cons like AX obviously but who cares, the guests of honor said they had more fun than most other conventions. PAF was a first year con btw ^^, but i met some of the greatest people that are just fun to be around including some new friends ^^. I made the registration system used at the con, which had a run in with bugs but was smoothed out later ^^. Friday and Saturday night I had a social drinking experience with some people at the con. Thursday a large group of us after setup headed off to hooters (i went for the food given my sexual orientation). It was an interesting experienced, we saw our guest of honor their with his family and another gust of honor his editor. I helped a new friend in some panels which were very fun and it seemed people loved them. The panels were Jip Jop (Japanese Hip Hop), Hot anime guys and girls (rooted for the guys ^^), Hello project. It was the best fun i have had in years, other than massive hangover and being under the weather on Monday -_-. I ended up rooming with a new friend of mine that i just basically met a month or so before, and behold she is awesomeness x100 (a yaoi fan, j music, and an anime fan). BTW Ian i didn't actually meet him but Neal Kaplan (voice of optomus prime) was their.

staff list in con book and my staff badge. I got to be a pirate ^^.

Kosuke Okazaki(editor of Blame! and bastard!) and Felipe Smith (author and artist of MBQ) Saturday night in an after hours get together in guest suite (greg was their but i didn't get a picture bec my batteries were dead -_-). Both guests were awesome to talk to and very friendly. Felipe spoke excellent Japanese and translated for me. Speant till 5am drinking and talking to them (a vendor i hleped out on thursday brought a gift of some tequila which i drank about 24 oz of, bad mistake)

Sounds like you had a great time Yuki, I'm glad to hear it :D

Anime conventions truly must be one of the greatest things on earth. It's the only time I can be with thousands upon thousands of strangers and still feel perfectly at ease, and comfortable with everyone. It's disturbing how friendly and talkative everyone can be at times, but you get so used to the relaxed atmosphere and just become a part of it.

I'll stick with Anime Evolution and the occasion SakuraCon for now, but who knows, maybe I'll head out to Pheonix myself someday :)
