Memorex AquaGuard Media Test

Postby Ian on Mon Nov 13, 2006 10:32 pm

Every once in a while, a company will send me a PR kit, showing off a new product. This is nice because like many of you, I don't buy into the hype of press releases.

Last week I got one from Memorex, demonstrating their new AquaGuard media. The kit came with a pack of CD-R discs, a spray bottle full of water, a small cloth and two inkjet printed discs: one with Aquaguard and one without.

Here's what the two discs looked like before hand. The print quality was pretty good on both.

Next I sprayed both discs using the bottle of water. I let it sit for about about a minute and then rubbed the disc with AquaGuard. A very small amount of blue ink showed up on the cloth but it did not smear. That wasn't the case with the other disc. The ink smeared all over the place, with much of it ending up on the cloth.

Oddly enough, the AquaGuard disc that Memorex included was actually a DVD-R. The other was a CMC manufactured CD-R disc.

Can you post the serial numbers for the Aquaguard disc please? I want to know who made it!

Moser Baer as expected.
