24x Drive with 48x cd-rw

Hey everyone, i'm new to cd burning and i just ordered a 30 spindle of 48x CD-RWs. The question i have is my drive is a 24x and the cds i bought are twice that speed. Will they still work and if so how or what do i have to do? I know you can change the burn speed of the drive but if i do so will i still be able to use these CDs? Is the stated speed of a disk the maximum or something?

what is your drive? we need to know the exact model.
if you don't know, most burning programs will tell you.
you can also use Nero InfoTool or Nero CDSpeed, you can get them from www.cdspeed2000.com if you don't already have them (which you do if you have Nero installed).

there's no such thing as 48x CDRWs. most likely what you have is 48x CDRs.
can you give more information on what these CDRs are? what brand? and if you can use CDSpeed or InfoTool to find out the manufacturer or ATIP code.

if your drive is only 24x capable, it can still burn the 48x CDRs (though the burn quality might not be the greatest, it will probably still be OK, depending on what media you have).

Ahh i feel cheated. I just read its cd-r but the site lists them as cd-rw.

don't feel too bad about that.
there is no such thing as 48x CDRWs.

besides, maybe people feel CDRWs are unreliable, and since CDRs are so cheap might at well use only CDRs.

to answer your original question: you shouldn't have problems using the 48x CDRs on your 24x capable drive. it will just burn them at 24x.
