In case anyone is interested (not that drives are available yet), Micro Center now has Memorex HD DVD-R media for $22 a pop, and it's made in India.

Yeah, I have yet to see the media in stores but its readily available online. Not that I'd buy anyway as I have yet to get a HD DVD writer.

You gotta wonder how willing people are going to be to pay $20 for a 15GB disc that works at only 1x when you can get a 25GB Blu-ray disc that burns at 2x.

Something I just noticed:
The Memorex HD DVD's are black.

Gonna be kinda hard to write a lable on those :o
BenQ 1655, BenQ 1620, LG 4167, Plex PX-716SA, Samsung SH-S162L, SH-S182M, Pioneer 111D, Lite-On SHM-165H6S and 1.9TB of HDDs to feed 'em and an X2/4800 to crunch for 'em.

Interesting Memorex is using MBIL. I'd *guess* (and I have no basis to guess this) that of those brands, MBIL is probably the best media at this time. Reminds me of when I used to swear by (instead of swear at) Memorex CD-Rs, back in like 1999-2000; didn't realise at the time they were all made by Taiyo Yuden....

It's like Memorex tries hard for a few years to build up a good brand in media and then burns through the goodwill with cheap crap for the next 10 years. [-X

The Taiwanese makers sure are rolling out HDDVD-R quickly. I guess that makes sense though, considering it requires only minor changes to existing lines. Are there any Japanese makers other than MKM who are planning on making HDDVD-Rs?
