What prices is everyone paying at home? And what are you getting as far as speed. Is it a special pricing or what you will be paying beyond 12 months.

Currently i have 1.5mbit DSL-line with a static address, and can't upgrade. it's as if my street is blacked out while the street over is able to get 3mbit. i hate this distance crap, and that i can't get comcast to give me a static IP

I'm paying $47/month CAD for 3M/800K DSL. No bandwidth cap. If I were to enter into a 1 year contract, it would be $37/month.

We're paying about $100 a month and that's for cable, DSL and phone. I could get 1.5mbit service but I decided to go with the 768k. Believe it or not, I actually get those speeds... unlike the shitty Charter cable service I used to have. 3mbit my ass.

Verizon's 3mb/768k DSL service cost $30 per month with a one year commitment. The cost remains the same after the one year commitment expires. Actual speeds are only about 10 percent less but I'm near the switch gear station.

Verizon also offers a 768/128k service for $15 per month with a one year commitment. The price jumps a few bucks after the one year period expires.

I've been very satisfied with Verizon's service but from what I've read the quality of service varies a lot by region.

I'm paying $69/month. It gets me ultra-basic cable TV and the high-speed package of 8MB down/768k up.

I really think I should be getting more upstream speed for my money, but that's the best that's available without paying really big bucks. If I went downwards, I could save ten bucks a month, but get 6Mbps down/384k up.

Currently Sympatico (Bell) DSL in SW Ontario.

1mbps service is all I can get. Getting about 700kbps of the advertised speed.
$52.99/month. Upload is 16 kbps. 6 years, and no speed upgrade at all. And its $20.month more now than in 2000.

Changing to Rogers Cable soon (2 weeks), up to 6mbps/800kbps for $51.99 /month.

Prices in CDN.

I've used Verizon DSL in the past, and I was quite pleased with the connection's stability. That was about 3 years ago, and the speed was just about the full advertised throughput of 1.5 Mbps down and 128 Kbps up.

Now, I am using Time Warner Cable/Road Runner and they recently upgraded everyone in my area to 10 Mbps down and 1 Mbps up. Needless to say, I'm loving it! It's about time they upgraded from 5 Mbps/384 Kbps! Then again, the only reason why they upgraded was because Verizon rolled out FiOS here. I'd seroiusly consider switching to FiOS, but it's an overkill for me right now, since I have no need for a landline phone and, besides, I rent, and I'm not sure if my landlord wants to wire the whole house with fiber. Smart idea, yes, but landlords can be stubborn. :P That and the fact that my cable is already included in my monthly rent, so bonus! :)

BTW, the Time Warner speed increase has not inflated the bill either: still $45/month.

Comcast 6 down 384? up. Paying around 90 or so for net and extended basic cable. At least I actually get 6 down often enough.
Too bad they wont drop prices to compete because they slaughter DSL for speed here. Only way to get a deal is threaten to drop em or be a new subscriber.

For what you're paying it isn't, at least. Most dialup is still $20/month if you want it to be crap-free.

(though I admit, if faster wasn't available in my area, I'd cry too)

Tele2 ADSL (high speed internet over phone) 1024 (=1.2Mbits/s) for 19.95 euros/month

I'm trying to get 10x more for the same price, but after a couple of calls, I'm still waiting about someone somewhere @ Tele2 France to do something...
