I HATE Memorex!

General discussion about recordable CD, DVD and BD media and write quality testing.

I HATE Memorex!

Postby MonsterMan on Sun Sep 03, 2006 4:20 pm

And Maxell...and every other company that likes to switch manufactures all the freakin' time.

I picked up two 50-packs of Memorex DVD-R's today at Best Buy (and, sadly, only one WD 500GB...the last one the had).

The one's I've seen before were CMC. Not great, for sure, but my one burner "liked" them.

These? RITEKF1.

Total, utter, 100% crap garbage media.

The Maxell 16x media I picked up awhile ago? Also crap (but CMC crap, that didn't burn ANYWHERE near as well as the Memorex CMC's I had).

From now on, Verbatium & unbranded media only!

No wonder neither of my local stores had any more...oh well. It woulda been nice to have two, but guess I'll just have to break down and get a 750GB :)

I had some RITEKF1 that I burned for someone else in my PX-716A that I thought were pretty good, especially considering it's Ritek and all. If I still have the scan, I'll post it later.

Hmm, I'll try 'em in my Plex later then.

Right now, it's sitting on my desk...I need a bigger/better PSU to handle all the crap I have in my PC :)

Sigh...my Plex doesn't like 'em:

Then again, maybe I'm just use to seeing stuff like this and this...

I'll try it in my 1655, but frankly don't want to use it in that drive...my two Benqs produce the best burns of any drive I've seen to date, so I tend to reserve them for the important data backups to high-quality discs only.

Man, I've gotta find a better image host

Well, he did burn them at 1/2 the speed you did. Maybe try 8x as well eh?

That's true, but the burner is starting off below 8x at the beginning of the disc; right at the beginning my discs are showing PIE >40. 8x probably won't help much. But I will try it anyway. Maybe the drive uses a completly different write stratagy...
