HP DVD+R DL

Postby Goodfella_no4 on Sat Jun 24, 2006 9:43 am

I have bought a HP DVD+R DL and I tried to burn it using my BenQ DW1640 with firmware BSOB. I get an error at the begining. The disc is still blank. I tried Nero, DVD Decrypter and Alcohol 120% and still no luck. Am I doing something wrong or are these discs just incompatible with my drive?

Who makes them? If you have CD Speed handy, click on the Disc Info tab and check the MID code.

Wow, actual CMC made DVD+RDL... nice find!! Where did you buy them???

As for why it's not working, it's possible, although HIGHLY unlikely, that the DW1640 doesn't have MID Code support for it... but that just doesn't seem right for the DW1640...

Can you post the Nero log from the failure?

BenQ drives most certainly do have support CMCMAGD01. And yeah, this code has been available under the HP brand for a little while now

I got it from Virgin Megastores Egypt. I have also seen them being sold in other shops here in Egypt.

And by the way, the DVD worked! I tried to run it using Nero so that I would get the error log, but all of a sudden it worked. Maybe that's because I restarted my PC.

I checked it using CD Speed and I got almost linear curves.

What other tests should I do?

Use the quality test from Nero CD/DVD Speed, using the DW1640.

As for why it worked, I've had the same problem in the past once or twice... sometimes just opening and closing the drive tray solves it for me.

Somewhere it was reported that Walmart had them. Tried their website but no luck. It could be a B&M item...?
