18X writing... a completely useless marketing gimmick imo. Any reason to believe this drive won't totally suck like petty much all Samsung DVD burners to date?

I'm taking a look at Plextor's PX-760A is a light review. I'm not Ian, so I don't pretend to be, but this 18x DVD±RW drive is a little faster than it's 16x predecessor. Not much, and only on very limited types of media.

One thing I noticed is that if you do a "Write Transfer 'Test'" the time it takes is around 4:50, but in the real world with a lead in and lead out, things take almost a minute longer.

I've included a couple of sneek peak screenshots. I'm also hoping to get the Samsung drive in the next month or so.

JesusFreak, my LG 4167 can do 5:30 at 16x. 18x is just a gimmick.

Nice. That's pretty snappy MonsterMan. I've got a LG4167 as well, and I can't get it to burn that fast when creating a data disk. Could you PM me a screenshot of a CD/DVD Speed "Create Data Disk" test? Thanks!

FYI, I never said that it wasn't a gimmick. But you gotta admit that the write quality is pretty good for a 16x or 18x write.
