PRODISCF01

Way back in the days of Fuji made in Japan TYs i got my girlfriend to grab me a 50pack specifically telling her to get MADE IN JAPAN .. she ended up getting the Taiwan's which where PRODISCF01. I forgot to return them and have been using them very slowly for burning stuff for friends or stuff i could care less about.

The other day i modded my Gamecube and its drive is VERY picky with media. First game i burnt was on one of my 8x TY's. Wasnt surprised when it didn't boot. So i figured why not dust off these crappy Prodiscs. To my surprise they work flawlessly.... But now I'm out :(

Which brings me to my question. Rather then buying tons of different kinds of media and trying which will work with my Cube... Can you still buy PRODISCF01 anywhere? Are the the new Fuji made in Taiwan still PRODISCF01 or have they moved to PRODISCF02 or something even more lame.

If not i guess ill have to try tweaking the POT and see if i can get it to run these TYs

Yeah consoles are pretty picky about media, and it really has little to do with the media quality itself. All the MIT Fuji 8X DVD-Rs are either FUJIFILM03 or ProdiscF01. If you get the FUJIFILM03, they'll probably be ok because I believe they use the same dye.

Check with Tom at www.blankmedia.ca, he's a nice guy, and he'll probably check his Prodisc 8x DVD-Rs for you to see if he has any PRODISCF01 specifically.

The problem with Prodisc 8x DVD-Rs, is that it could be any one of 4 different MID codes: FUJIFILM03, PRODISCF01, PRODISCS04, or MCC02RG20. Prodisc never gives you any options about which ones you'll receive when you place an order, and each one can perform radically different from drive to drive, and from disc to disc.
Punch Cards -> Paper Tape -> Tape Drive -> 8" Floppy Diskette -> 5 1/4" Floppy Diskette -> 3 1/2" "Flippy" Diskette -> CD-R -> DVD±R -> BD-R

I had looked there before posting and all his are either PRODISCF02 or just "should be prodisc" hehe

That's why I said CHECK with Tom (the owner), either give him a call, or write him an e-mail. Tell him I sent you :wink: He's really busy right now, but if you give him a few days he should be able to check to see if he has any of that media code or not.

If 100 discs isn't too many, Futureshop has 100pks of Fuji 8X or 16X DVD-Rs for $30 this week.

You'll probably want to buy instore though, to make sure you get 8X, and not 16X.

It's not the dye alone.
It's the end result that the console likes in other words bad disc with same dye or same disc on a different burner might change things completely.
Also what if you used a disc which use same technology but has slightly different behaviour because of other stuff let's say the silver is different.

Also what if that batch or the batch he now gets of prodisc is exceptionally (can't rule it out with prodiscF01 !) and performs different.

All with all a lot of ifs.

But then again these problems are allways there if you buy media for picky drives.
