The version we've had online from the start is the fixed version. Karr is so good he sent the fix before I could even upload the first version. :D

Welcome back to CDRLabs Karr !! :D It's great to see new things added to KProbe. Now I'll actually have to get a 165P6S for the new goodies...

Ian- I think you may have posted the faulty version. I just did a scan using it and the statistics and text summary were all OK, but the graph was blank. I picked up the file available at CDFreaks and that version seems to work (the installer in the zip file had a time stamp of 4 March, 9:24).

Then Karr needs to send me that (third?) version. The one online is the newest I have.

Damnit.. that is a third version of 2.5.2. I guess it would help if I checked my email in the morning. #-o

Alright, its now available on the KProbe page. I'll have to update the mirror later.

Really though, I wonder how the testing will turn out. I suspect it'll be even more problamatic then DVD :o

Yes ! I did not understand much from what they tried to explain in this article:

http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews ... 2&PageId=0
Digital Errors on BD and HD DVD
For HD DVD, we have a similar metric for digital errors as on DVD, which is Parity Inner (PI) and Parity Outer (PO).

For BD, we have Random Symbol Error Rate (R-SER), Burst Error Max, and Max total length of burst errors.

Has anyone tested the Blu-ray testing of KProbe?

I tried with at Lite-On Blu-ray drive, and the test ends very soon after I start it. The result report says that there is one error:

Date : 1/22/2009 12:34:24 AM
Model : 5-0-0-0 ATAPI BD B DH4B1S 7P5A
Disc : BD-RE , [RiTEK Corporation]
Speed : Max
ECC blocks sum (PI/PIF) : 8/1
Scanned range : 0 - 00:02:00 (0)
Sampling count : 0
Errors : 1
LDC Max : 0
LDC Average : 0.0
LDC Total : 0
BIS Max : 0
BIS Average : 0.0
BIS Total : 0

Is anyone else getting this?
Also, is it also possible to get measures on RSER/BEC? (Since they are also digital properties.)

Thanks,
MII

KProbe doesn't work with the DH-4B1S or DH-4O1S. If you want to test Blu-ray writing quality, you'll need to use CD Speed and the DH-4O1S. The DH-4B1S uses a different chipset so it doesn't work with CD Speed.

Ian

The thread title says that KProbe2 v 2.5.2 now supports Blu-ray testing, but your last post implies tht it doesn't. Also, the DH-4O1S is only a reader, and normally we should use a writer with KProbe2. Would you please clarify for me?

Do you know of any other software and hardware combinations that will report BD burn quality?

It worked with a drive that Lite-On never released. When Lite-On partnered with BenQ, the drive design was abandoned.

I don't think that the DH-4O1S is a good representation of write quality. No matter what discs you use, the error rates seem excessively high. CD Speed and Opti Drive Control will do BD write quality tests with MediaTek based drives such as the BD Combo drives from Lite-On and Samsung as well as Lite-On's new 12x BD writers. As I've said in other posts, its not really clear if any of these results are accurate.

Thanks. What a pity; I have become accustomed to her face, oops, accustomed to doing CD and DVD scans after burns and was hoping to continue the practice with BD.
