I can't say I'm too excited to pay $30 for an old movie I can pick up on normal DVD for less than $10.

Most of those titles are not that good.... they should have gone for more classic movies with better value. Probably 5th Element is the best of the group.

True... Starwars could make the difference for the whole format. But I'm thinking Lucas probably would have something to say about it.

Actually, it should be pretty cool to be able to put so many movies or TV eps of something onto a single disc. I know *I* for one am looking forward to being able to burn 1 disc with a complete series of anime on it

I guess, like me, you're finding having 10 billion DVDs of various stuff, a little hard to manage?

I have to agree. I just wonder how many DRM hurdles they'll put into play to try to prevent people from copying DVDs to the new formats. (I know, technically if you're using unprotected DVDs it should go but who knows)

I'm REALLY looking forward to the next generation... I just hope it isn't so crippled by DRM that it's more trouble than its worth to do anything.

I have faith, EVERY lock, DRM, hurdle, gets broken sooner or later as long as there are young hacker types around with no life and lotsa time it will get broken as long as it's popular enough to be worth their effort.

unless the originals are in HD you are not getting HD...you will do no better than an upscaling dvd player.

imagine when HD of MASH or Happy Days comes out!!!!! This stuff is obviously not HD sourced....but people are so stupid that they will believe it. I am not sure if any of the new releases in Ian's post are REAL HD are they? Why buy if they are not. I want to see a REAL HD film.

Most of this stuff will just be resample....I will wait for the fools to sell their DVDs on ebay for the upsampled nonsense. Can't wait !!!!

well.....saw your post so I thought I would do an informal survery....I asked 10 people in my office....8 of 10 have NO IDEA of upsampling...so I guess they will sell their DVDs? Those who want HD (of the 10 1 did) they (he) said he would sell me his DVDs "for cheap" LOL, actually LOLATHDS = laugh out loud at this High Def Scam

don't get me wrong, high def WILL be cool, but these releases are a SCAM plain and simple. Hollywood knows this. Right now HD is all about DRM and selling the same stuff twice.

Well, some of the movies being released will deffinately be in proper HD, but I agree, many of them will see no improvement at all.

right...but what is needed is a proper identification technique.

Remember CDs? You can have AAA, ADA, DDD, etc. representing recoding mode (A for analog, D for digital), mixing (A or D), and mastering (A or D)...consumer now knows where things stand.

Same should be the case for HD. HHH would mean High Def Recording the movie, High Def for Processing, and High Def for Presentation. Most movies now would be SHH or even SSH (S=standard). When all is HHH then I may buy in; until then consumers are getting hosed as most is not high-def. We will never see such a classification system though; too much money in dishonesty

That movie would look absolutely stunning in that format. I have the superbit version and it looks fantastic on my cheap JVC 48" Widescreen.
