2nd Sexy Plexy

Got a second Plextor PX-716A recently and installed on Saturday. So far so good. My box has finally grown up and now sports two dual-layer DVD burners :) . Anyone here planning on getting the PX-760A when it drops in April?

Probably not. Bought 4 of the 716A last year and within 8 months 3 of the 4 died. 2 of the 3 the disc slot stopped opening and the 3rd one just stopped reading any discs.

I replaced them with BenQ 1655 drives and absolutely love those.

Yeah... I only use the PX-716SA for testing media and burning the odd CD-R when my PC with the Plextor Premium is busy. My BenQ DW1640 works too well to justify BUYING another drive for personal use... and I've not been impressed with Plextor for quite some time. I'd be more likely to buy a LiteON for personal use :P

Sorry to hear about your drives. I hate it when hardware dies. I had a TV tuner card die last summer so I know the feeling.

It seems BenQ, and especially Lite-On, have made names for themselves. Lite-On makes units for most of the drive makers anyway and BenQ is a successful spin-off from Acer. It seems Plextor better come with it when they drop the PX-760 in April. Otherwise more users will make a beeline for Lite-On and other brands.

i'd think about buying a Plextor drive, mainly for the scanning capabilities, but for 2 reasons:
1. ridiculously high price
2. their attitude towards Alex Noe, Zeb and the whole thing.
