Catalog Blu-ray disc titles will wholesale for $17.95, about the same as DVDs when that format hit the market in 1997. New-release Blu-ray discs will wholesale for $23.45, a premium of 15%-20% over what suppliers were charging for new theatrical DVDs.

Keep in mind these are wholesale prices. It's what places like Best Buy pay for them. Actual retail prices are going to be higher.

Personally, I'm going to hold onto my DVD player, at least until Blu-ray titles come down in price.

this should show you WHY BR and HD are there...they are more worried about DRM than content...plain and simple. Should put this on the news page I think as it shows how crazy this has become.

it will be trickier given that there are 128 bit keys (or is it 256) and the keys can be revoked..but yes I agree it likely will be done....

It'll probably be cracked like CSS -- by sloppy coders on the DRM side that get busted by the white hats trying to crack it. That's what the DRM producers never seem to get-- it's a case of taking the path of least resistance. Great, the key length is longer. That's much more secure for a brute force attack. Unfortunately for them, you rarely need to resort to brute force in things like this....

The first drives (expected in March) will use an interim version AACS 0.91 which allows analog HD signals.
