Buffer overrun in C++ Runtime Library

Postby rudyschatz on Mon Feb 13, 2006 2:53 pm

Craig I posted this e-maol to tech support on feb 7. Have you seen it yet?

Attn:
C Campbell

Hi Craig,
I downloaded the latest version of Nero 7 last night. I then ran the general clean tool on Nero 6 & installed the new Nero 7,.I got the same problem. Nero 7 burned a file OK & erased it.
However when I rebooted the buffer overrun problem returned & I could not erase the disk.
Now comes the interesting part. I ran RegistryChecker.exe before booting. I then rebooted & tried burning again. It worked!!!.I then proceeded to try diferent things with Nero 7 & they worked. I burned audio disks & DVDs. They all worked & erased, I found that if I ran the registry checker before rebooting the progarm would work every tlme.
Could you look into what the registry checker does so that I can eliminate this problem.
I hope that you can help me with this problem.

network backups

Postby Slavens on Sat Feb 25, 2006 8:35 pm

I'm trying to help resolving this issue, but it seems that BackITup 2 can back up files over a LAN to DVD, but cannot restore the files. This is an URGENT issue for me, as I am trying to restore a friend's laptop.

ANOTHER SHITTY SOFTWARE RELEASE FROM NERO - 7.0.8.2

Postby sundiegojc on Thu Mar 16, 2006 10:28 pm

Here's another reply for the miserable sacks of shit at Nero!
You couldn't go more than one upgrade without shafting your customer base again with shoddy coding and inept customer support?
The latest upgrade (7.0.8.2) once again declares that necessary files are missing from the install package and craps out before completing, JUST LIKE THE INITIAL release.
I've tested this installer from multiple downloads and on FOUR DIFFERENT PCS and 2 DIFFERENT OS's - ALL WITH THE SAME FAILURE!!!

I know that Germany is experiencing high unemployment, and hiring winos off the street to write your code may make sense in a socialist economy but if you want repeat business, use REAL software engineers and CHECK THE CODE BEFORE YOU RELEASE IT!

Immature Ranting? - What do you call a serious problem?

Postby sundiegojc on Sun Apr 02, 2006 7:12 pm
I'm trying to get technical support for a serious problem. Please start you OWN topic for immature ranting.
Nero's unwillingness to properly test their software prior to release is a serious problem, and one that bears serious attention (to which Nero has so far only paid lip service).

While you may only consider your own problem to be serious, some of us have been dealing with Nero 7's installation problems since its release as documented in this topic.

If you don't like the content of my post, you'll just have to deal with it!

You have hit on something because I was having buffer overruns when trying to rip a cd to mp3's using nero 7. I ran RegistryChecker.exe and the problem is solved. It works after a reboot also. I have no idea what it did but its fixed. Thanks!

LabelFlash not working on Ultra version

Postby Twerpstr on Sat May 06, 2006 3:15 pm

I would like a simple answer of why the Ultra version will not allow me to use LableFlash. I have a LabelFlash drive and disk from my many adventures over seas. I like LabelFlash. Currently I use the Nero Premium version to use LabelFlash. If I had known this, I would have purchased my Nero 7 from Europe not US. With this said, when do we get LabelFlash in US and can I convert my s/n over to Premium edition if I cannot get what I need with the Utra version.

Nero Burning Rom 7.2.0.3b

Postby jens on Tue May 16, 2006 12:09 am

Bug #1: Eg. add several files to a new DVD project. Now mark several files and use the context menu to change their file priority at once. You'll notice that the filenames are changed. This does not happen if you only change one file at once. This bug appeared already in version 6 and did not exist before.

At least of the German translation:
Bug #2: Context menu on a File, the tooltip of "Eigenschaften" (property) is:
"HD-BURN-Video".

Bug #3: Context menu on a File, the tooltip of "Hilfe" (help) ist: "AAC".

Bug #4: Tooltip of the LightScribe-Button is "AAC".

Bug #5: Tooltip of the line before the LightScribe-Button is "HD-BURN-Video".

These bugs are all fixed with the latest release.

Nero Vision 4.5.0.15

Postby jens on Tue May 16, 2006 12:23 am

Almost always I get these buffer overflow messages. I already contacted the support, but I only got the answer that this is a riddle since this should no longer happen with this version and that I could ask further questions without giving a solution or showing at least the intension to find a solution.

This bug is independent of the given source.
I'll try to assist to make this bug reproduceable where I can.
I'm not the only one with this problem, you'll find more reports at the afterdawn.com forum.

Nero Vision 4.5.0.15

Postby jens on Tue May 16, 2006 12:36 am

Stuttering video output. Now this seems to be another problem that may appear if you use animated menu buttons. This has definitely nothing to do with the player, only with the encoder.

E.g. if I use the "Standard" menu and activate the animated thumbnails, they are stuttering. (1-pass and 2-pass.)

But if I use the Smart 3D cubes, this stuttering disappears. I have other examples like this one.

It is a bit annoying that you cannot use quality settings for the menu and the different videos for an easier workaround. And it makes no sense to me that if I want a high resolution menu, I will have to resize my low resolution videos, too.

Addendum: I could fix these stuttering problems by downgrading to Nero Premium version 7.0.8.2.

Another and similar example of this bug. I used the VLC media player to make this file smaller and ZIP to allow this attachment.

Nero Cover Designer 2.4.6.4

Postby jens on Tue May 16, 2006 2:28 am

If I import large pictures into my Cover Designer Project and save this, the Cover Designer produces a high CPU load and doesn't react any more for a long time. I have to lower its task priority to work with other programs until saving has finished.

"Large pictures" means I have a project that takes 8,17 MB.

Perhaps saving a file could be done by an own thread with low CPU priority?
Additionally I would glad if it was possible to terminate the process with "ESC" as seen in Adobe products where you see a progress bar. At the moment killing the task is the only option.

Nero Vision 4.5.0.15 slow startup

Postby jens on Wed May 17, 2006 1:53 am

I noticed that NeroVision does lots of registry hits during startup. I counted 159506 registry hits on NeroVision startup (with Regmon - sysinternals.com) while producing a high CPU load. This can take a long time on a "slow" machine. Perhaps there are more registry hits depending on available information. This might take even more time. And if you have av software that looks at every hit, this might take forever.

I think this is a bug because most of those registry hits are redundant and repeat thousands of times:

Nero CoverDesigner

Postby jens on Wed May 31, 2006 8:12 am

If you use SHIFT-RETURN inside text-boxes, you'll see a square instead having a new row. You'll have to use RETURN for that although this means you want a new paragraph.

Nero 7.5.1.1 errors

Postby hornblower on Thu Sep 21, 2006 6:01 am

Nero 7.5.1.1 BurningROM
I seem to be having problems with multi session discs when making backups of photographs (jpg’s) and storing them on a DVD.
Everything is ok with each session until the number of files reaches approximately 1000 and then the program freezes.
I have tried with different DVD’s and always the same problem.
If I remove version 7.5.1.1 and install the previous version 7.2.7.0 everything is ok and the multi session writes perfectly.
You may have seen my earlier post re InCD 5.5.0.5 changing the dates on copied files, I checked again today and it seems that any file ending in ‘exe’ is copied ok without a date change but all other extensions have their dates changed which makes the program worthless.
Now back with version 7.2.7.0 until next version after 7.5.1.1 comes out

InCD & date stamps

Postby richstant on Mon Sep 25, 2006 8:11 am

This has been reported in other posts & in other forums, but I'll include it here for completeness. When copying files to DVDRW with InCD, the modification date is changed to the current date instead of being left alone as should happen. This makes backups based on date comparisons impossible!

Nero Recode bug (sorry if it's been posted):
When encoding to Nero digital (specifically AVC 2 pass), even though I uncheck (disable) the video preview, during 2nd-pass, the video preview will always be displayed. I have to check and uncheck the box to disable it again. This doesn't happen on 1st pass encodes (during multiple video encodings), only when 2nd pass is started for each video.

Install apps crash

Postby TomXP411 on Mon Dec 04, 2006 8:46 pm

specifically, the .ax files don't all get registered, and this causes anything regarding video playback or processing to fail in the Nero apps. I can't edit video with Nero Vision, and so I can't make video DVD's.

The strange part is, this used to work, but it just stopped working. I can't locate anything that would have caused it to fail. I didn't install any software or hardware. It just worked one day and not the next (literally - I was burning a series of DVD's of Heroes).

Request: Provide an option to burn-in subtitle in making Nero Digital MP4 videos. Let's face it, although support for MP4 video is increasing (iPod, PSP), hardware support for Nero specific subtitle is non-existant (especially in the US). It would be great if Nero Recode can just burn in the subtitles, just like AutoGK or any other divx/xvid encoding programs.

Two issues that I haven't seen mentioned here:

Nero ProductSetup v1.6.14.0 - freezes upon manual check for updates but the act of pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del to enter Windows Task Manager seems to unfreeze. Also, ProductSetup will not allow me to select another window while it is running.

Nero Vision v4.9.0.18 - Attempts to burn a DVD containing any Smart3D menu (other than Cube, which burns without issue) produce an error stating that there is not enough room on the disk even though the bar graph shows that there is.
