Oh, oh, miscommunication, MR. Yes, I do use the 32xers in that machine, but at 24x.

Slim- even 24x is something I can't do. Like I said, my burner tried to write them at 2x and didn't succeed, so 24x is pretty good. Maybe I'll have to crossflash to 52246S firmware and try again. Which firmware are using?

Actually, MR, I don't know what speed it burns at, but it seems OK.

6S0D is the second-last version for that drive. I'm using SS0E at present, but will give SS0C a try tonight (same release date as 6S0D, but for the 48246S).

This is all just out of curiousity - I only have one of these 32x RW's (still virgin).

i finally got around to installing my 2nd (black) LTR-52327S.

well, i discovered that, unfotunately, it's one of the 2nd revesion, without the EEPROM. came with firmware QS5A (the latest). which means no QS0B for this drive!

here's some scans of discs burned on the new one and also on the old one for comparison.
all discs are Verbatim DataLife Pastels (yellow color), 48x, 700MB, Taiyo Yuden 97m24s01f.

on the whole they seem much the same. the old drive does better at 52, the new one better at 16x. in any case all burns are good.
the dip at the end of the burn speed on the new drive when burning at 52x - that's concering though (it's repeatable - happened on 2 discs).

All those scans look pretty good (other than the "hair" on the reading speed curve)- the difference may be normal variation from disc to disc.

Incidentally, SS0C didn't help on my 32x RW's either. They just aren't recognized on a drive that doesn't support UltraSpeed+ media.

well, contraty to some reports i've seen about problems with 32x CDRW media in LTR-52327S, mine work just fine.
when creating CDSpeed test CDs and scanning them, i occationally got a few C2 errors. but never when i burned actual data backup.

That's fine- it is a 52327S drive, so it should be able to write to them. Mine is a LTR-48246S, which doesn't have the UltraSpeed-Plus capability. That's why it surprised me that Slim could write them with his 52246S.

well, maybe you should consider cross-flashing your drive to a 52327S.
