Bootable USB device

Since the death of my internal CD drive in my laptop I decided to invest in a LG GSA 2166D USB drive to replace it. Though it works fine in Windows I've noticed that it doesn't boot from startup unlike the original drive.
My BIOS (PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0) apparently supports a USB boot but I can't seem to get it to work with this drive.
Is there anything I can do to get this to work or will I have to get a new USB drive?

This is kind of tricky because there was a time that USB booting was not exactly universal, and it was really hit and miss as to what USB device would boot the machine. It's a lot more stable now, but depending on the laptop, BIOS version, etc, you may not be able to boot ANY external USB device...

You'll have to dig around in the BIOS a bit. In my computer's BIOS you have to both set up a boot priority and then a "usb device priority".. i.e., it can only boot one attached USB device, and it must be USB device #1. It's kind of hard to explain, but what I am saying is you may need to make 2-3 changes in the BIOS to make this work.

Like, you'll need to tell it the external 2166 is USB Device priority #1, and then reboot (so it re-scans the USB devices) and then you can select the 2166 as a boot device.

Some Bios have a point called "USB Legacy Support" or similar. Is this activated?

Yeah, I enable Legacy support but I still don't get the option for USB boot.
