Laptop working.....

Postby bimbla on Mon Sep 19, 2005 1:40 am

I need a laptop which will enable me to work at different places with ease. In my case, I don't need to work much when on the run (in transit, on battery).
I am told that battery life of laptop is short and replacement is expensive. So a question popped up:

Can a laptop work without the battery(battery removed), and with a ac power adaptor? (I then need not worry about the battery life)

All views welcome.

Thanks and regards,

Are you talking about the length of the charge or the overall battery life?

If you're talking about the charge, most laptops will usually go for a few hours. As far as overall life goes, the batteries in all of my laptops usually died after a year or two and aren't typically covered by warranty.

You can probably run your laptop without a battery but if you want to hibernate it or something, you will need one.

I do not want to hibernate.....
So you mean I CAN just remove the battery and still be able to use the laptop powering it through the AC adaptor?

Yes, you can remove the battery and run your laptop just through AC adaptor.

You can run the laptop with just the AC adaptor and the battery pulled out.

However, just be careful not to unplug the AC adaptor by mistake while you are working.

As Ian said, batteries are usually good for about a year or two at best.
