Compusa has TDK 2.4x DVD+R DL 5 packs for $16.99.

I think its manufactured by Ritek.

Meritline has Ritek-branded DVD+R DL for $3.18 each after rebate (25 pack for $79.49)

Or $2.60 each after rebate (5 pack for $12.99)

But those disc are worthless I bought 2 pack of 3 disc, so far I have used one pack of that and all three came coaster and wasted $7.99. Be cautioned about "memorex" D/L. When others on this forum were saying the same thing I did not believe it until I have had this sad experience myself.

I have to say that I burned through a 25 pack of them and for the most part they play fine for me. I have had a few glitches on a couple of them, but I am not sure if that is with the media or with DVD Decrypter ripping and burning the image, or my DVD player.

I still prefer the Verbatim DL media. But until it gets down to under $4, its hard to justify.

Office Depot had 3 pack Verbatims on a 19.99 2fer sale, I got a couple packs and their 2fer office depot 100 spindles too. That should keep my Panasonic settop burner happy for a while. I haven't found any movie yet I feel like wasting these on. The last 2 DL I burned when they first came out did pretty well on most players I have tried them on.
Hopefully we'll see more better then overpriced retail sales on these.

Buy.com had a sale today for Verbatim DVD+R DL 10-pack for $29.99. It looks like 2.4X, but the website states that it may burn at speeds upto 6x.

Anyway, everyone was trying to get in on this deal and their order server came to a crawl. It crashed on me several times, so I couldn't place an order. Now a few hours later, it's on back-order and they don't seem to be accepting any new orders.

It was a nice deal, except too many people thinknig the same thing

That's because it's below cost
It's not unusual to limit the quantity of something being sold below cost. That way it's used a promotional tool to push interest of the product.

Unfortunately.... it also creates an unrealistic expectation from the customer's perspective. But really, isn't that what "Back to School" is all about (from a retailer's point of view I mean).

I just placed an order for them. When I placed the order, it said they were in stock, but as soon as they made it into my cart, it said "On order". It let me place two in the cart and it accepted my order.

I'll try ordering again. I was trying to use a coupon that they emailed me with the order. Maybe the coupon doesn't work with items that are back-ordered.

Pretty much every coupon from them I have seen requires items to be in-stock.

So it's not enough for media to be sold below cost, you want it to be VERY below cost (almost half cost)... and on top of that you probably want free shipping too right?

Would you like that wrapped with a bow, or with a cherry on top?

It let you use the coupon even though they were backordered?

It was listed as available on the website when I ordered it late last night. Several minutes after placing the order I get an e-mail saying, that my order will be delayed (I'm guessing that they were out of stock already and that a glitch/mistake caused the website to list them as available even when they weren't), but the coupon was accepted at checkout, and there's no indication that it will be un-done. :) Right now, my order status reads "Sent to warehouse"

Hmm, I placed an order with coupon and the status showed "On order" and had no problem. Just waiting for them to contact me and say "sorry, can't do that." :)

Just went to Staples today and picked up 3-pack Verbatim +R DLs for $5.50 USD per pack. It's not advertised or labeled, but that's how it showed up during checkout. So it's $1.83 per disc!!! :D :D

I also got some 16x Verbatims. Both +R and -R are $2.68 for a 10-pack.

(I first heard about it from the CDF BB).

That's quite a deal! I don't have a Staples near me right now or else I would go now. :)

Buy.com shipped my Verbatim DVD+R DL 10 packs (with the coupon applied) yesterday. That made me happy.

Yeah, Staples has all Verbatim media on clearance right now. I only found on pack of DL discs in my area but I picked up plenty of DVD+R, DVD-R and LightScribe CD-R media. :D

That's weird. Why is all Verbatim media on clearance?

It's possible Staples is not going to carry them anymore. More likely , Verbatim is doing a packaging change and with it comes new item numbers.

Verbatim is moving to the 10pk, and a price war is starting with Ritek... this is not too unexpected. But I'm sure Staples is losing a heck of a lot of money on these.

Yea, it doesn't make sense. If they wanted to clear it all out for shelf space, they could've done so without dropping the prices THAT much. Besides, what good's a clearance if they don't tell anyone about it except at checkout?

But I ain't complaining. ;) Went back tonight and picked up some LS DVD media and some more 16x-rated DVD+Rs and DVD-Rs. Guess there aren't many computer geeks in my area because there's still plenty left of all the types of media. I'd get more and clean out the place except that I know that I'll never use them all up.
