[-o< Let's go people, I want to hear all the opinions about these two burners! Which one is better, because I'm in great dilemma which one to buy. Please help!
I have read all the reviews about these two drives that could be found on the internet but I still can't decide! #-o

I have both and I reccomend both but I think the BenQ has a slight edge with the fact they actually release firmware. Plus solidburn is really nice. I like them both however and they bith rip fast as hell and burn good quality. Look at some of my scans of both drives in this forum.

Have tested both extensively.

BenQ (even before solid burn) was more all-around machine, burning usable quality even on Ritek/CMC/Prodisc.

THe only failure is sporadic CD-R quality at 24x on TY / MCC.

NEC however is even better with quality discs (TY/MCC/MXL), but fails more easily on cheaper media. It is better on CD-R also.

If you only use quality discs, it doesn't really matter which one you buy.

If you use a wide variety of discs, then definitely BenQ.

I agree with your statement, NEC is friendly with TY, Mxll and MCC but over al BenQ 1640 may edged.

I recommended the Benq 1640 to a friend of mine and he is *VERY* happy with it so far. Granted, he hasn't used it much, but dolph gave it a very good review, and I trust him a lot for stuff like this...since he's, well...obssesed.

I've often said that I don't know or do anything that anyone else couldn't know or do with the help of a little unhealthy obsession

I didn't even see this poll yet and recommended the BenQ DW1640 over the NEC 3540A to a friend a couple days ago from what I read in reviews and what people have said in this forum. Looks like he made the right decision as he will probably be using whatever media is available at the time (probably not TY).;)
