BenQ 1640 Scans as promised mainly TY scanned with 3 drives

DVD-R/W, DVD+R/RW, DVD-RAM

Postby Scour on Thu Aug 18, 2005 4:46 am

@AxBattler:

Benq is very good in PI and PIF when writing TYG02 @8x.
Pioneer burns TYG03 @16x very well, TYG02 @12x has higher PI, but low PIF.
Benq DW 1640 and 1650 , Plextor PX-755, Pioneer BDR-208 and 209D, LG GH24NSC0, LG BH16NS40 and 16NS55, Liteon ihas 124F and 324F, Pioneer DVR-215 and S21, Samsung SH-224DB and 224GB, and some more

Thanks. Looks like the BenQ & G02 will be my best option then.

This drive (1640) performs at its best when setting speed burns at overspeed for 12X rather than 16X. The follwing is again Maxell 002 DVD+R burned@12X.

Yes remember the biggest concern people had prior to release of BSKB was inability of 1640 not to overspeed the media above thier rated speed, if you turn the overspeed off then what is the purpose of having BSKB?.

I did a strategy swap with TYG02 and TYG03 using MCSE and then burnt the disc at 16X and got better results than using overspeed to burn my TYG02 at 16X..

Yes but the problem with using MCSE for buring speed increase is you have to each time mess with swapping the writing strat from one media to antherone and that could cause trouble at some point.

agreed. For the time being however it appears the TY swap works better than the overspeed on TYG02 media if you must burn at 16X. Personally my backups are burnt at 8X as the quality is fantastic and the extra minute means nothing . Hopefully another firmware will help. BSKB made a huge jump forward on my TYG03 discs. It almost burns the same as my NEC now.
