JLMS XJ-HD166S Tray won't stay closed!

Postby dgreene on Fri Jul 29, 2005 12:04 pm

Hi,

I have a JLMS XJ-HD166S that has been working just fine for years. Yesterday, I insert the install CD for a new DLink router into the drive and it just spins and stops, but won't launch anything. I manually eject the cd from the DVD drive and insert it into my CD-RW and the disc works fine. When I try to close my DVD tray, it does close and then opens right back up. It now opens/closes at shut down and start up and stays open all the time, no matter what.

Any ideas? What could have gone so wrong by simply inserting a CD?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The drive is a bit fragile compared to other LiteOn drives I've had. My first 166 died at just right after a year of hard use, but it's so cheap and fast I bought a couple more to replace it. You might want to try it in another machine just in case somthing messed up with drivers or whatever causing your problem, otherwise maybe a new one is due.
