Hauppauge 150 WinTV-PVR TV Card or Pinnacle Studio 9 USB????

Postby aristottle on Fri Jul 08, 2005 9:40 pm

Hi....I just bought Pinnacle Studio 9 USB (I paind $99.00 Canadian for it...a saving of $200)...but I am considering returning it for Hauppauge 150 Win Tv -PVR TV Card on Sale this week for $99.00 canadian.

Which is better?

My primary use is to convert VHS Taped football games to DVD...but it would be nice to be able to burn TV programs right to DVD.

Help me folks....from your experience which is the better route to go and why?

Well what about resources....I was led to believe that the USB 2.0 hardware capture device was better than the internal card because the device did all the work and was easier on the computers processing power?

I have also been led to believe that the Pinnacle studio software is the best there is...or certainly one of the very best?

I am looking for suggestion here guys????

you mean the pci would be less of a hit on cpu?

cause it has its own chips to do all the encodeing and decodeing, or whatever it is they do

The Hauppauge is a pretty good card; it'll do everything you want it to do. Some people on Newegg say it uses less than 10% of computer resources when recording. I would take their word for it, although it does depend on the type of computer you have (processor speed, RAM, etc). For video capturing and encoding, faster processor and more RAM = better.

As I pointed out in your other thread, personally, I absolutely prefer a PCI capture card opposed to a USB one. Firewire is good too.

Oh, check out this thread for LoneWolf's experience with the Hauppauge PVR-150.
