C3 Booth 4446, NY – June 22, 2005 --Advanced Media, Inc. (RITEK USA), a subsidiary of RITEK Corporation, announced today the availability of its' RIDATA TOPY Mini Writer product in North America. A sneak preview of this line was offered to booth visitors during CES and received great feedback. The TOPY Mini Writer features DataPlay discs - the smallest optical discs in the world. The extremely small dimensions of the Mini Writer are 1.3" X 1.65" X 0.11". Packaged with three free 500MB DataPlay optical discs to store data or as a backup for large files, the Mini Writer is hot pluggable and compatible with Win98/2k/XP, Mac 9.2.0 or Linux Kernel 2.4.0. operating systems. Drivers are available online at www.ritekusa.com. Additional blank 500MB write-once Dataplay media is available in convenient 5 or 10 disc packs. Popular street pricing ranges between $123 and $130 USD. Look forward to new larger capacity 750 MB and1 GB discs later this year.

The Mini Writer supports the USB 2.0 protocol, FAT 12/16 format and sleek Fashion ID design. A limited lifetime warranty is also included on all RIDATA brand media.

Their media pricing is a little high IMO. You can get a 10 pack of discs directly from DataPlay for about $60

Ah, the $123 - 130 price is for the writer and 5 discs.

These are kind of neat because they are so small, but didn't they miss the boat a little bit here? I remember reading about the dataplay discs 4 years ago or something and thinking "cool". But now that dvdr is 30 cents a pop for 4.5 gigs, does anyone really need 500mb for 6 bucks a disc?

I guess it's cheaper than flash but that's all I can say for it..

Maybe they should concentrate on the console market or as some kind of alternative to UMD...

wish they came up with 6cm size disk like mini dvd with about 5 to 10gbyte capacity; of course, the media has to be priced less than 5usd, then i would buy them.

how about mini disc sized with 5 to 10GB? i think with dataplay's data density, it would not be hard to archive.

Taiwan is working with DataPlay to make tiny FVD discs.
