LiteOn SOHD 167T Safe maximum speed?

How fast is too fast?

LiteOn SOHD 167T Safe maximum speed?

Postby MaxBurn on Tue May 24, 2005 12:47 pm

I have this drive and I am rather tired of it ripping a DVD9 dual layer movie at what looks like an average of 3x. Currently using the latest OEM firmware and I am aware that there are faster firmware's out there for different read speeds, but what should be a safe maximum speed for this drive?

I think 8x is average for DL.
Before you update the firmware make sure you have DMA enabled on all drives. What do you use to rip?If DVDDecrypter go to Tools->Settings->I/O tab and set Transfer Length to Manual/32kb.Then go to the CSS tab and disable Detect Mastering Errors.
If speed doesn't increase then update the firmware.

I do use dvd decryptor and I made those changes, still not really faster though.

Result from family guy season 1 disk 3 (yes I own it):
I 17:46:05 Average Read Rate: 7,435 KB/s (5.4x) - Maximum Read Rate: 10,667 KB/s (7.7x)

Little better:

I 18:35:28 Average Read Rate: 9,550 KB/s (6.9x) - Maximum Read Rate: 13,765 KB/s (9.9x)

That was using:
167T.9S19.patched-rs16xR_16xRW_10xDVD9.exe

I tried the one for 12xDVD9 first but the drive kept spinning up and then reseting repeatedly so I guess that's to far.

Big question here; what is the maximums for this drive and R and RW media or do I have to suck it and see?
