Can you dub from VHS into any MINI DV camcorder?

Postby aristottle on Tue May 10, 2005 2:58 pm

I am sure that you must be able to dub from a vcr to a mini Dv camcorder....but I can't figure out how to do it?

I have a Jvc dvl 100 mini dv camcorder.....I know that some guys just dub into their mini dv camcorder than use firewire to send it to the computer.

I can't find any information in my manual how to dub to the minidv camcorder.....there are instructions on how to dub from the mini dv player to another machine....but not dubbing to the mini dv player?

Thanks for any assistance guys.

Does your camcorder allow A/V input from an external source?

What kind of camcorder is it?

JVC DVL 100.

when I open the view screen door there is j lip/edit jack?

On the front under a panel I have an "av" jack that is identical is size to the j lip/edit jack. below it is a small usb jack that says "dv in/out". And below that is an svideo jack.

hope that helps?

I've done it with my Sony mini-DV camera.

VCR out to mini-DV in.
Set the camera to output via firewire on the fly ( I was not recording it).
Sony mini-DV firewire out to computer firewire in.

Captured with Nero recode or express.

Did some minor edits. Added chapters.

Burned to DVD.

All done quite quickly (real time). Two 30 minute vcr tapes, edited and burned to 4x +r DVD in under 2 hours. Nothing fancy, just quick and dirty.

thanks guys....I had a copy of the manual...but can't find anything that shows how to dub to the mini dv camera?

I know it can be done with a mini DV camera....but my question is specific to my make and model number?

Is it possible that it can be done even though the instructions don't show it?

experiment.

That's how I got mine to work.

I found the part about outputting the viewfinder to the computer in my Sony manual. The rest I figured out for myself.
