DVD+RW 8x Media

Postby Nudicles on Mon Apr 18, 2005 9:52 pm

What brands besides Verbatim makes 8x DVD+RW media right now? I haven't been able to find the Verbatim media anywhere.

Or..

What 4x media will work at 8x with my NEC 16x DVDRW?

None. You need media rated at 8x to write at that speed.

I don't have any myself, but I've heard that Ridata/Ritek also has 8x +RW media.

Yep Ritek also has their 8x DVD+RWs and I believe they were the first to get "Philips certified" for 8x DVD+RWs.

Is there any other more reputable places online selling this media?

You are correct.
I was thinking of an old press release that said they were the "First Taiwanese company" to get 8x DVD+RW discs certified by Philips... But I forgot about the "Taiwanese" portion.

Current 8x +RW media certified by Philips:

The "+R" format wins again:
First in SL at 16x
First in DL
First in RW at 8x
Why would anyone use "-R"?

I still can't find any good 16x DVD+Rs, only 16x DVD-Rs. For this matter, I don't consider PHILIPSC16 to be good, and I don't like Verbatim's 16x DVD+Rs either.

Well I can hardly find any 16x DVD-R's. Only TY and MCC at a few online stores seem to be available to public at this time.

That might be because Maxell uses the same part numbers for their products even when they are over taken by newer faster products.

In any case, I forwarded your link to Maxell and asked them for some samples. So it'll either result in getting some new 8x DVD+RWs, or having the site pressured by Maxell to display their media properly.

Meritline is too expensive for my tastes anyways

wow, eEnid seems to have way better customer service than I had first imagined. After I emailed them about getting the wrong speed DVD+RWs, this was their reply:

Paul

So we can correct our inventory and find what we did wrong all we need is a
part number or the number of UPC (bar code) or enough information to
identify what was sent to you. As soon as we know we can send you the
correct product we will at no added cost to you (normally the same or next
day). Also, we will not need those DVDs back, they are your to keep.

Thank you for doing business with eEnid.

Spread the word, eEnid just shot to the top of my list. :D

Anyways, we'll see if they actually have the 8x DVD+RWs soon enough...

As I said, the product numbers with Maxell media are the same from 2.4x to 4x to 8x, so they will likely find they sent you the correct product according to their system... but in reality, you get screwed. That's why many stores advertise 4x media when they actually ship out 8x media.

Just as a note, they ended up not having any 8x media.

But they did give me a full refund on my 4x. (which I kept for free)

Hey weren't that the lines I should have posted ? :D

Here at the other site of the water we only seem to be able to get Verbatim DVD-R disc's easy. All the other stuff SONY, TDK, TY and RITEK is only sold at one or 2 stores at the moment. Still sony is trying to improve this.

For +R live is full of choices. Really for +R we have much options here.
More as your US folks it seems. Then again +R is more populair in the netherlands with Philips manipulating the market. (Remember the levy thingie.)
