And about time! I was highly unimpressed with the poor quality of the drive's failures! Almost no media that I attempted to burn actually failed during the process. Completely unacceptable! :o

Once I'm done the rest of the writing, I'll go back and double check some of the problamatic discs. I'm not rerunning all the tests on all 100+ CD-Rs and DVDRs

Hmm that's faster as I expected. Now let's hope they really fixed some stuff.

I personally didn't have many failures with A102. Though Ricoh 16x +R media didn't burn properly at 16x, and Optodisc crap media didn't work

Well if you only looked at error levels then nothing was wrong with LG because most home testing drives could cope with high jitter and Assymetry/Beta which the drive give on quite some 16x burns. That's the reason why some folks were not happy with it's writing quality.

But I have good hope they improved stuff. They allready fixed quite some wiriting quality problems with A102.

Well, I usually write at 12x. Most other drives are slower at 16x than this one at 12x....

Yeah, it didn't burn Optodisc's good 16x media very well either  Although the 8x DVD-Rs didn't burn too badly.

many ways.
most burning software will tell you in some way what firmware your drive is.
Nero 6 Burning Rom: Recorder menu -> Choose Recorder (or click Ctrl-R. or click the button on the right of the pull-down menu in the menubar).
Roxio Easy Creator 7 Creator Classic: Tools menu -> Disc and Device Utility (or Ctrl-D)
Nero InfoTool
