Session fixation error

Currently running NERO v6.6.0.8 on Win98SE (NO other burning software is installed).

Sometimes at random whenever i continue a multisession data CD writing to CD-R media (different brands of quality media) everything seems like its going to work, burns all the way to 100%, but then I get a message saying "Session fixation error/Could not perform fixation"!

NO problem burning to CD-RWs.

I put the disc back into my recorder and went to Nero's 'Disc Info' feature and it says 'Session is Open'... i tried BOTH options in the bottom left of the window ['Close Session' and 'Close Disc'] w/o any success: same 'Session Fixation Error' here too...! :-k

Only thing to do hereafter is to throw the CD away, its useless since i'm not able to read whats written to the disc.

i guess that a full Nero log file from the failed write attempt would help to diagnose the issue better:

Hi Ulysses,

You are getting a 'No Seek Complete' error message and this is 95% of the time caused by hardware. It's usually one of the following issues...

1) Poor Media
2) Old Firmware
3) Dust, smudges, or scratches on the media
4) Dust on the Optical head of the recorder
5) Poor Power to the recorder
6) A recorder that is in need of service

I would recommend trying to clean the Optical head before you go spending any more 'cash'. This works quite often.

or you could try using one of those CD-Cleaner CDs that have a little brush on the CD and it cleans the lens. though they're generally not recommended, it might be better than taking apart your drive...

And sometimes just grabbing a can of compressed air and carefully blowing in the drive with it will do the trick.

But if that fails, and the drive is out of warranty, I would open the drive up and use an Anti-Statick cloth, or one of those Camera Lens cleaning cloths to gently wipe off the optical head. And use compressed air to clean the rest of the inside of the drive.

P.S. Those CD Cleaner CD's have the potential of the brushes 'scratching' the optical head. But they have been known to do the trick, but I would ont use it that often.
