Liteon don´t manufacture DVD-Rom´s any longer?

Hello!

I was on the Liteon-page:

http://www.liteonit.com.tw/ODD/English/ ... d%20rw.asp

I wonder why I can´t go to the DVD-Rom-section, have Liteon stopped the production of DVD-Rom´s?

Good question. Their older drives were jointly developed by JVC Lite-On IT Manufacturing and Sales

http://www.jlms.com.tw

The new drives, like the 167T were listed on their website right? It looks like the links to them were removed on both the worldwide and Americas websitess.

None of the sites have had any good information about the DVD-ROM's. Liteonamericas has not ever had a DVD-ROM page linked. If you guess at the URL, you can find this: http://www.liteonamericas.com/us/odd_dvdrom.htm

liteonit.com has firmwares for the SOHD-167T on its CD-ROM page, but no other information. It seems to me like Liteon got sick of working with JVC and is abandoning that venture. JVC is useless to them now that they have Sony. The drive's name no longer conforms to the JLMS naming standard like previous models, but now fits the Sony alliance naming standard.

I was curious about this too. LiteOn seems to be dropping off the face of the earth with DVD-ROM drives. Sad, as I don't care much for the alternatives.

I will say that my LiteOn 167T works every bit as well as my 166S and seems to be slightly higher build quality. My guess is it isn't JLMS though.

Hello!

Thanks for the answers. It´s strange that Liteon have no infos about their DVD-Rom´s at their pages.

Can it be that the 167 can not read DVD-RAM and is very slow at reading protected data-discs? Maybe another chipset than the 166?

Funny quirk

Postby shaun on Tue Jan 18, 2005 8:15 pm

Usually I see brands disappear quicker than "normal people" (LOL), because of my business.

There seems to be no supply issues with Liteys in the OEM stream from distributors. I've made a few phonecalls...will let everyone know if anything turns up.

Oh, there's a fair amount in the channel of both the 166S and the 167T. But, the 167T doesn't show up on JLMS' web page, and is doggoned hard to find information about on LiteOn's page (it's very buried, and the last two times I tried the download link to the latest firmware was broken and I had to get it from RPC1.org). The 167T seems easier to find as the Sony rebadge (which is more expensive, even double the price at local retail outlets).
