Does anyone know where I can purchase this drive with a black bezel? I saw some on eBay but after shipping they are about $101.55 to the states!!

Thanks!

Try here.

They even have great ratings on ResellerRatings.com. Maybe I will have to try a purchase from them someday.

Eh. Not quite as good as it first appears. $16 shipping. Still might be good enough, though. And they do claim to have them in stock.

cfitz,

It comes to $89.94 with shipping, which is the best price that I've found so far on a black model.

Thanks again for the link!

MadBurner,

I wanted one with a black bezel also, however, I was not able to get one from either of the Canadian sites.

They said that they did not ship anything outside of Canada.

I don't mind even a little bit that my LG 4163B was purchased last week with the standard beige one.

Indeed, I was happy just to find a seller with any stock.

The 4163Bs are getting to be in demand

newegg was temporarily out when I was ready to buy.
I am not what I was, nor yet what I am to become.

You're welcome. And if all else fails, there is always this (except in black, of course):

Image

I used it on a drive for my friend when he replaced his old beige computer with a black one but wanted to keep his CD-RW drive. It wasn't very hard to use and the results were pretty decent. I plan to do the same to a beige drive I am going to transfer to my own new black computer.

Thanks for the tip! This was also a consideration 8)

It is amazing what we will do to have color-matched drives!

I *HIGHLY* recommend NCIX.com (or the US version thereof). In the last 2-3 years they've become one of the single best computer stores to work with in Canada (as far as I'm concerned) and they're also in my local area. I deal with them quite often, and buy all my computer equipment (especially DVD Burners) from them. They were also kind enough to supply me both my first BenQ DW1620 for the purpose of writing the review for CDRlabs.com. I've never dealt with a more friendly company :D

What's the difference between the 4160B and the 4163B? is the 4163 just a newer model? It looks like it's fsater in some areas.

Off the top of my head it has faster DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW and DVD+R DL writing speeds.

i think it's faster with 16x DVD+r too, since it's PCAV instead of ZCLV.
also, the 4163 does bitsetting for DVD+R SL which (if i remember rightly) the 4160 does not.

Good to know. I'll keep that in mind for future purchases.

I also received a visit from the UPS truck today. My Benq DW1620 arrived from BananaPC.com. I'd never heard of this outfit before ordering the Benq, but the transaction went smoothly. And I like the color scheme of their site. So I guess I'll also keep them in mind for future purchases.

I don't have time to install and play with my new toy right now, but I'm looking forward to your report on your new toy.

Dodecahedron, is that you? #-o

Thanks. I've got a lot of catching up to do. It is amazing how quickly technology can leave you behind if you aren't constantly on top of it. And you know I've been away for a good while. But now that I finally own a DVD burner, hopefully I will be able to learn a little and have some fun doing so.

i'm sure Commander Spock would appreciate the beauty and aesthetic symmetry of the Dodecahedron, but alas i'm not him.
