Maxell 8x DVD Media

I just bought 8x DVD + and - for $4.99: Quantity 15 @ Office Depot.
I have never tried this media, and all packaging (Proof of Purchase) states that it's made in Japan.
I used DVD Identifier, and these are the Identifications and code numbers:
DVD-R
[Hitachi Maxell LTD]
[MXL RG03] = Media Code

and

DVD+R
[Hitachi Maxell LTD]
[002] = Media Code
I figured to experiment with these, and they say 8x burning, but are they really made in Japan as they state on the packaging?
