Liteon Self Balancing drive

How fast is too fast?

Liteon Self Balancing drive

Postby Rich on Wed Jan 12, 2005 9:50 am

Hi,

Months, maybe a year ago I bought a Liteon DVd-Rom from Compusa that noisily self balanced and bought a Mad-Dog which has been pretty good.

I just realized I hadn't heard any more about this self balancing thing and looked at the Dvd-Rom's at compusa and the liteon was gone.

I was just curious what happened to that. Did they find problems with self balancing and discontinue it?

thankx, Rich

Correction, that was a Memorex drive made by Liteon which is deliverable, though I'm not shopping for it.

I'm just curious why this "ABS Anti-vibration" system thing didn't take off.

Wow the first 2 replys to my own topic.

Here is a link to a discussion from Sept 03 when I bought that drive.

It and this are the only 2 threads that come up when searching for:

"ABS Anti-vibration"

AVS aka ABS aka a million other names is not new. Aopen CD-Roms in 1998 had it. I suspect quite a number of CD-Roms and DVD readers have it as it helps to stop noise and improved readability (and possibly reduces the change of damage to CDs). However, they may not advertise it
