Probably a typo because in the sentence before they write DVD+R DL:

With the booth of the pioneer, displaying the blue ray and the built-in type drive for PC which corresponds to the both of DVD±R/RW. Besides the fact that correspondence is planned even in BD-ROM that the logical format decides extending through end of year, it supports also 2 layer record of BD-R. It corresponds to also the record of DVD+R DL.

As for recording rate BD-R and BD-R RE (2 layer disk) together 2 time speed, DVD±R 8 time speed, DVD±RW 4 time speed, DVD-R DL 2.4 time speed. In addition, the reading speed of BD-ROM has become 2 time speed. Also optimization function of the optical aberration which used the liquid crystal element and thickness of the disk and revision function of the aberration which the difference of wave length pulls up have.

In early 2003, I found that Princo discs were the first to dip below $2/disc around here. Those discs I burnt back then are still quite readable. (They're being stored in jewel cases which used to store Fuji CD-R media. :p )

I hate princo even more then I ever hated Ritek (and still do for some things). Princo is the biggest plant doing stupid and harmful things to this industry. Some people may see Princo as a leader for reducing prices. I see Princo as a destructive force, pushing other manufacturers to reduce quality standards in order to produce more cost effective media to try to compete. Want to know a little more specifically what I'm talking about? Look at Taiyo Yuden 8x and Verbatim 8x media quality in comparison to 4x. Both Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim have dropped in quality, and increased in quality variations, mainly due to having to be more competitive in the market with plants offering discs for <$0.15 USD. Not to mention all the effects of plants like Princo using other people's codes and screwing up support for high quality media.

penny pinchers are ruining good quality media for people who don't mind paying more for peace of mind.

If it weren't for "cheap" manufacturers like Princo, would we still be paying a dollar more each for recordable discs, since there would be no low-end competition? I'm leaning towards the current situation with dual layer DVD media as an example.

I myself have 2 batches of TY 8x +R here, one of which works perfectly at 12x, and one which doesn't. Both Plextor labels...

You should inform Plextor of that... since Plextor pays quite some extra $$$ for higher grade Taiyo Yuden media! They may even replace your problamatic discs! (they take this issue quite seriously!).

That isn't true. There is a lot of competition between Prodisc and Optodisc which is the main force behind Ritek dropping their prices. Infodisc was also quite competitive for a while (you know, until they went essentially bankrupt!).

We don't need crap discs to pull the market price down prematurely. All they do is screw up quality control, and force pricing to unrealistic levels, screwing things up for people who care about good discs!

Dare I ask how much this drive is selling for, and when it'll be available? How much is the BD media at the moment?

Any idea how long it'll be till we can get a BD burner for around about the $200 or so mark?

This is great news. Thx Ian for the info & pix . I hate to see how much BD drives will cost when they first come out (probably in the $300-400 range I imagine).

Well Blue Ray discs aren't too far off in the distance, so these drives should follow soon after. I'll wait to get one of these since media, standalone BD drives, and BD writers will cost too much initially.
