The process of encoding an original DVD w/ DVD shrink takes about 45 mins. to an hour at the most (which I've heard is the average time it takes) and after the encoding is complete it only takes about 15 mins. to burn the DVD using Nero. Now, my problem is when I try to burn a dvd to dvd going straight to Nero it takes over an hour sometimes. Can anyone tell me what the problem is. Thanks.

I'm trying to burn dvd to dvd on the fly...for example my friend let me borrow a dvd movie that he burned and when I try to burn dvd to dvd using nero on the fly it takes over an hour. But, when I burn a movie from a ripped movie file that is saved on my hard drive it only takes about 8 mins.

jalicea77 wrote:Thanks for all the input. I tried checking my dma settings and device 0 is dma enabled and device 1 was in pio mode, when I tried to change it to dma it appeared as if it was done but it still stuck in pio mode. I also deleted all the unneccessary files in temp dir., etc. Still, no luck. I burned a copy of an encoded movie on the fly w/ nero and it took 45 mins. were my friend says it takes him 8 mins.

If this is the case, read this FAQ:
Problems enabling DMA in Windows XP
jalicea77 wrote:Ok, the instructions to get all of my settings (hard drive, dvd burner, dvd rom) to DMA mode worked great. My primary IDE properties for device 0 is set at ultra dma mode 5, device 1 says it's not applicable....my secondary IDE properties for device 0 and 1 are both set at ultra dma mode 2. But, I still have the same problem. I tried to burn an encoded, compressed dvd to a blank dvd on the fly and it still took over an hour. Again, my burner burns really fast if I burn a dvd file on my hard drive to a blank dvd (8 minutes) but still no luck on the fly. Any other suggestions. Thanks.
correction to the above:
device 1 in the 2ndary IDE channel was first reset to multi-word dma mode and I thats when I tried to burn on the fly, but then when I rebooted my system it was then set to ultra dma mode 5.....would that of made a difference?
jalicea77 wrote:No, I think you misunderstood me, or maybe I misworded it. I am trying to burn a dvd (that is NO LONGER protected, because it has already been through dvd shrink) on the fly using Nero express. It burns fine but the issue is it takes over an hour. If you look at the last email I sent I updated the primary and 2ndary channels to dma mode and this still didn't help the situation. Matter of fact, I'm in the middle of burning a movie (on my other computer, not this one) on the fly and it is only 85% complete and it has already been 45 mins. Again, the movie I am burning on the fly is NOT PROTECTED. Any suggestions on what the problem is? Thanks. By the way, I have over 90 GB of space on my hard drive so I know that can't be the problem.
