LG GSA-4120B and DVD-RAM recording

Postby dodecahedron on Tue Nov 02, 2004 8:32 pm

i just got this drive, my first DVD recorder. :P

i'm thinking of trying out DVD-RAM.
i must have skimmed that part of Ian's review, where he says that in oder to use DVD-RAM you need to use InCD. bleh :x
with previous LG DVD-RAM drives, you got DVD-RAM drivers on the support CD. so you can write DVD-RAM either by using the drivers ("directly from Windows") or by using a packet writing software.

i had thought that with DVD-RAM, (part of) the point of it was that it was integrated into Windows and you don't need packet-writing software to use it (along with all of the problems of such software).

let's say, i feel cheated :(

do i really have to use packet-writing software?
or are such -RAM drivers available?
couldn't find on LG's support website. they say to use InCD.

does anyone know if DragToDisc also works with DVD-RAM with the LG super-multi drives?

Do a search. I posted some DVD-RAM drivers a few months ago. If you can't find em, email me.

You do not need any additional drivers to write to DVD-RAM with windows XP. I have been using DVD-RAM discs (FAT32 format) just fine. You will need the drivers if you plan to format the discs with UDF, windows only does FAT32.

hehe.. I think Kennyshin just chopped up my zip files...

Due to people stealing our bandwidth by linking directly to the DVD-RAM drivers, they have been removed. If you need access to them, send me a private message.

because i'm a skinflint...
well, not really.
but my financial situation isn't all that great.
beause i always deliberate a lot when it comes to spending money, especailly on myself. it's easier to spend money (when i have it) on gifts for other people (family, friends) :D
because i'm indecisive and take a really long time to make up my mind.

even then it's not good :x
it was a spontaneous purchase.
i went to buy a microwave oven ($220). the old one croaked (currently were 'borrowing' my mother's microwave oven.)
then, spontaneously, decided to buy also a toaster oven. the old one is perfectly functional, but old and really dirty (LOL we didn't take good care of it or clean it none too often). another $150.

then, on the spur of the moment, at the cashier's counter, i saw the 4120B grinning at me from beneath the glass.
since i was already buying all that other stuff i said what the heck, i can spead it (LG GSA-4120B: $120) on 12 payments. so i took it :)

and now for the bad news:
3 days after, i discover that they started selling the LG GSA-4160B in Israel!!! last week it wasn't here! :x
so i'm deliberating, i might be able to return it and get either money back or refund, and buy the new one.

i really can't make up my mind. my life's sad story. :(

Actually, that was a rhetorical question (because I know exactly what you went through- I don't really need a DVD burner and hedged a lot before springing for the LiteOn 1213S, mainly because of potential upgrades, and partly because it seemed to hit Europe before the US at the time).

Let's see. The sequence was
microwave oven -> toaster oven -> (roxio) toast? -> DVD burner?
