I like Samsung for a lot of things (monitors, RAM, etc.). That said, hard disks aren't one of them. I've seen too many with heat issues, and enough that failed. I think of them like I think of Kia cars...The warranty is good, but there's a much higher chance you're gonna need it.
I'd pick Western Digital as my hands down first choice (my only choice for my machines). For others, Maxtor and Seagate are reasonable choices. I'll consider Hitachi when they've had more results for long-term reliability.
