Hi, I'm starting to read about phones 'cause I wanna get one someday.

I'd like to find a site like CDR-Labs that is about phones.

I saw a bunch of Uniden's and a couple Panasonic's and one V-Tech at Costco a couple weeks ago and am going to start reading.

I guess I could start here.

Do you have any good/bad experience with these 3 brands?

My hearing must be going and I want one with a volume control so I can jack it up.

well ive had less then happy experience with uniden, v-tech are ok, i like panasonic phones

i recommend them to my customers, if there good enough for customers there deffently fine to recommend to cdrlab folk

Wow, that's funny. Poorly written on my part. Sorry, Yup, I got a panasonic that's like 19 years old. It's been ok but I live by a freeway off ramp and with no A/C I have 4 box fans running to keep the place cool so when I'm on a phone call it's rough to hear sometimes.

They had a nice panasonic for 62 buckazoids but were out. I gotta save a little so maybe in a month I'll get one. Thanks Hoxlund for the info.

Super, thanks. I'll do that. I did find the model of the panasonic already with Google. Isn't amazing how the other search engines have almost faded from use. Wow. Used to use Lycos, then Infoseek, then Dogpile, then Google came along and even swallowed up deja. Deja was excellent. I liked it better than google's setup for news groups.

The Panasonic cordless phones have worked beautifully for me.I also had Sanyo cordless phone.It too was a good model with good features.

I have now a Panasonic cordless caller ID phone,which is amazing.

I'd stay away from V-Tech. I dont' think I've ever had a V-tech phone that worked well. Stupid me, I keep buying them because they're cheap.

Thanks, Ian. Looks like it'll be Panasonic then. I just gotta save a couple bucks and have them get back in stock. We're gonna have a new Sam's club and Walmart in mid october. I've never been in a Walmart or Sam's club.

Panasonic phones are the best IMO.They offer good range and clarity.Sanyo phones are cheaper when compared to Panasonic,but I havent faced any problems with Sanyo too.

i have the KX-TG2220. your model is probably similar.
it's the 2.4GHz line of cordless phones.
not bad IMO.
i've always used Panasonic phones and i like them (most of the time).

Sony phones are the best IMO. I also use a Siemens one at home and have had no problems with it either.


Never EVER buy a GE phone. Those really suck.

Another vote for Panasonic. I bought a KXTG5050W 5.8 GHz model a few months ago to replace a V-Tech 2.4 GHz model. The difference is night and day.

The biggest problem with my old V-Tech (aside from the fact that it was ugly as sin) was that it simply wasn't loud enough. People at the other end complained my voice wasn't loud enough, and I couldn't turn the earpiece volume up loud enough at my end either. It is such a stupid failing. I have no idea why they can't just turn up the gain a bit.

The new Panasonic has no such problem. The volume is quite adequate even when not turned up to maximum. I normally set it to one or two steps from maximum.

I have owned a 23 MHz Motorola, a 900 MHz Uniden, a 2.4 GHz V-Tech and now the 5.8 GHz Panasonic. Only the Motorola and Panasonic were good quality. Actually, the Motorola was the best of all, despite being such old technology. If I had been able to find replacement batteries for it I think I would still be using it today.

The one thing I miss on the new Panasonic is a built-in clock. It shows elapsed time for calls, but not wall-clock time. The capability is in there, no doubt. I think they just disabled it on my model because it is the cheapest of the line. Check the various models in the line for the one that has all the features you want. I think they all use the same basic internal cordless circuitry and vary just according to the number of extra features

One more thing. The Panasonic uses NiMH batteries instead of NiCD batteries. They have good capacity (a long time between charges) and don't suffer the memory effects of NiCD batteries.
