There are even quite a few burners that do not support SL DVD+R bisetting, even when DVD+R DL bitsetting is supported.
You only made one post regarding bitsetting, and it referred to DVD+R DL discs, NOT DVD+R SL discs. Here is your quote:

As a few others have already pointed out, if you are having that much trouble with DVD+R discs you either have;
bad discs
a poor quality DVD+R writer
or did not set the booktype to DVD-ROM on these SL DVD+R discs.
