Nero V5. will not recognize my Philips CD R/RW

I have a Philips Mod. #CDD4401/72
CD R/RW recorder installed in my
HP 266 mhz with WIN 95C operating system. I have installed " nero BURNING ROM software which only
has the numbers
V5.
90.3ED28.001 and IFPI JU10
on the disk, so I really don't know what version.
When I try to select the recorder
for data back-up, I get a message
"Sorry this Nero version can only
be used with the recorder that it
was bundled with". I had originally
acquired the nero 6 software, which I later determined will not operate with my system. I then purchased another older version which was
supposed to be compatible with my
system, but it gave me the same messages which I now receive. I purchased this latest version which was advertised to operate with
older systems (90 mhz /WIN95B), but it will not recognize my CD drive, or allow me
to select a recorder for a data burn. I have visited the Nero site,
and contacted nero support, without
realizing a solution. HELP!

Have you updated Nero?

If that doesn't work you might have bought an OEM version of Nero,unless it says "Full" or "Retail".
BTW...no offense but you should use Win98SE or newer.

Thank you for the "update" suggestion/link. I will try that, but as I
stated, this is the second "older version" of Nero software which I
installed. This computer is primarily used for mechanical design,
with an expensive vector program that is not supported (DOS based)
by newer versions of Windows. The CD is to be used for large file
data transfer to a "back-up computer". I have a multiple computers with other operating systems from Win 98 SE to XP, including one which has Nero 6
and a DVD burner. That computer
has a Troyka Combox with 3 individual hard drives, having
WIN 98SE, 2000 PRO, XP office. I
do not have a problem with Nero 6, other than it doesn't seem to be compatible with my "older" computer. I was hoping that someone
would know of a patch which would allow operation of the Philips
CD (which is supported by Nero 6).

Hi Poorrichardstuff,

Sorry, but based on your posting, you have an OEM bundled version of Nero 5 that should not have been sold without a recorder.

As you state in your posting, it says "Sorry this Nero version can only
be used with the recorder that it was bundled with".

So the version you have is looking for a specific model or Brand Recorder, such as Yamaha, TDK, etc. And it will only work with that model recorder.

There are OEM versions of Nero 5.5 that will work with any model recorder, but apparently you do not have that version. Whoever sold you that Nero 5.5 should have provided a recorder, or at least informed you of what model it will work with.

So an upgrade would not resolve your issue.

Another option is to get an external HDD and drag the files to it,then connect the drive to another PC with Nero 6.

I am confused, as I have been trying without success to locate
a nero 5 disk that will work with my Philips CDD4401/72, and I am

including Nero who can even tell me
what recorders will be supported by the 3 different #5 versions I already have. 2 of the 3 disks were
purchased with drives that they did
not support. How does one acquire

Sorry, but Nero 5.5 simply has not been produced for quite sometime. A couple of years at least.

And we never officaly allowed OEMs to sell our OEM bundled software without a Recorder. In the United States its illegall to sell an OEM bundle without the hardware.

It was only in some European countries that this is legal, as long as they are clear in stating what is being sold. And only some of them had an OEM versoin that would work with all model recorders, not all of them. As they had to pay extra for that ability. And they did this because they never knew what model recorder they would be shipping from month to month. Most OEMs had set suppliers, so they only needed an OEM bundle that worked with those set suppliers. This would lower their costs.

So there is no true information on where to get them, or if there are any available. I rather doubt there are after 2 years of no production. But anything is possible.
