8x Superdrive

Does anyone know who makes the 8x Superdrive found in the new PowerMac G5's, and also, what model is it?

Easy, I searched for about 10 minutes on here, google, cdfreaks, and rpc1, and couldn't find anything!

I see... funny you say that, as the 8x Superdrive is standard in the PowerMac G5's, and, if you wish to downgrade to a combo drive, you subtract $100 from the purchase price. No PC can stand up to a G5, you are just clouded in your pure anti-apple ways.

Same issue as with Plextor or Taiyo Yuden. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it overpriced? No. You get what you pay for.

Not true at all. Take DVD-ROM's for example, I prefer Lite-On DVD-ROM's, Pioneer's are more expensive, but do I think they are better? Hell no, becuase they aren't.

Well, yes I have my hair long, but I dont have any VW bus.

(I'm kidding here. I own an iMac... that hasn't been powered in in more than a year).

Since I bought my PowerBook I used almost every day, I have very bad experiences with PC notebooks and none with this baby. Even I use it at home to watch some DivX/XviD files with AC3-5.1 encoded audio with an external audio device that handles the digital output to the home theater.

Well, I'm an Apple fan since Apple-II, but not a Job's fan.

I suppose apples/macs might be good for people who aren't techie in any way. I could never handle not being able to get into the guts of the software. Plus, no nifty CD/DVD tools!! I'd go crazy!! (or.... more crazy )

I Know that Desktop Macs had Pioneer's, and Portable Macs had Matsushita or Toshiba ones. But some Desktop with slot loading are not Pioneer's.

Well if you are a Unixish you can manage with cdrtools and gui packages in X11.

But it's true, Toast is not perfect, I had some probs with SVCD burned in Toast, my DVD-Player didn't like it.

There are no equivilants of Nero Info Tool, Nero CD/DVD Speed, Nero Drive Speed, K-Probe, DVDInfoPro, Smartburn, Plextools.... the list oes on

but the big advantage with Unix/Linux - you can write ones yourself!

There is no need to equivalents, I can use them in Virtual PC with my drive connected to the USB port.
