How to get InCD 4.2 to ignore DVD-RAM drive?

I have a Panasonic DVD-RAM drive that I purchased long before DVD+-RW was ever released. Consequently I have quite a few DVD-RAM discs formatted in UDF using the Panasonic DVD-RAM drivers. I now have a Plextor DVD+-RW drive and I would like to format several DVD+RW discs with InCD packet writing. However, if I install InCD 4.2, it takes over the DVD-RAM drive, making all of my formatted DVD-RAM discs unreadable until reformatted with InCD. I am not about to back up, reformat, and restore all my DVD-RAM discs in InCD format, so my question is, is there some registry setting I can tweak to make InCD ignore my DVD-RAM drive and just support my DVD+-RW drive?

I gather there isn't a solution to this problem? How about if Ahead adds an option in the next release of InCD that will allow users to choose which drives to enable InCD on?

InCD 4.3.0 still monopolizes my DVD-RAM drive. A useful option in the next release would be the ability to choose which drives you want InCD to support.

I am interested by the compatibility problem pointed by SloPoke23 if reproduction conditions can be documented and the defect reproduced in our test labs (or maybe a raw image of a problematic disc uploaded to an FTP server). I exchanged myself test disc with Panasonic engineers at last UDF plugfest and did not found incompatibilities. There was a known issue in the other direction (from Ahead UDF to Panasonic UDF) but Panasonic engineers did discussed about the issue with us and found the root of this problem. (I am not sure if there is an update from Panasonic available to fix the problem).

I thought that InCD's installer would detect the presence of Panasonic letter access drivers and prevent the installation until the other letter access software is de-installed, to avoid conflict. Isn't the installer seen the Panasonic software in SloPoke23's case?

Finally, there is currently no 'feature' to disable InCD 4 for particular devices.

Possibly you are dealing with one of the Panasonic dual-format DVD-RAM/DVD+-RW drives. I have a straight DVD-RAM drive, the LFD-201, as well as a Plextor 708 and a Lite-On 52246S. Ideally, I would like the Panasonic UDF driver to control only the DVD-RAM drive, and let InCD allow me to UDF format the rewritable media in the Lite-On and Plextor drives. In fact, this works if I stick with InCD 4.1.5.10, since it looks like this earlier version of InCD doesn't support DVD-RAM entirely. The DVD-RAM media show up with a filesystem named UDFFS20. As soon as I upgrade to InCD 4.2, all those DVD-RAM media show up with a filesystem of INCDFS and are completely unreadable. I am running the latest DVD-RAM UDF driver meiudf.sys, version 4.0.1.0. The install of InCD didn't detect this or complain about it.

Ok, I think I understand why the installer does not complains: the detection of DVD-Form was fixed in 4.2.10.0, hence after the previous web update (4.2.9.1).

Yes, 4.1.5.10 had the bug of not recognizing correctly DVD-RAM only devices, and this is fixed in 4.2.9.1 as you noticed.

What surprizes me is that your media are mounted by 4.2 as you say that the filesystem INCDFS is shown (I assume you check the volume properties), but however are 'unreadable'. Can you detail the unreadable? Cannot see files? Cannot read them? Cannot write/modify/delete files? Wrong volume label? More problems?

Also, I suggest to run Philips UDF Verifier on the discs causing trouble ( http://www.extra.research.philips.com/udf/ ). This tool will tell us if the UDF filesystem on the discs is valid or not.

Hmm, I was working from memory and apparently I got a few facts wrong. I just re-installed InCD 4.3 to retest everything, and the problem is not that the Panasonic formatted DVD-RAM media are unreadable, but that they are unwritable. They do show up as INCDFS filesystem, but they have 0 bytes free and when I try to create a file or folder on it, I get an "access is denied" error message from WinXP. I also have a utility that catalogs my media, and it tells me that the serial number of the media has changed.

Insert one of your problematic media, go to the device properties page at the InCD tab, make a screenshot, then copy C:\Program Files\Ahead\InCD\Error.log and C:\Program Files\Ahead\InCD\SrvError.Log in a temporary folder (assuming that you are running NT 4 or higher), execute also Nero info tool and save the result to an infotool.txt file, and finally, e-mail me the 4 files at dburg@nero.com ?

OK, I'll be sending those files shortly. I've done a little bit more experimenting. All my 4.6 Gb DVD-RAM discs are formatted UDF 2.0 using the Panasonic formatter. InCD 4.3 shows them is INCDFS and refuses to write to them. If I try to format them with InCD, nothing happens; the format dialog does not even appear. If I try to erase them with InCD, the Start button is grayed out.

If I format a disc UDF 1.5 with the Panasonic utility, InCD ignores the media and they show up as UDFFS15 which indicates to me the Panasonic DVD-RAM driver is being used. I cannot format or erase these disc with InCD either.

I have analyzed the files. I think it should be possible to code a support for this old device, but I would need a sample for testing. I am currently trying to obtain such sample.
