Overburning CD-R's

I use Nero to burn with my Pioneer 106 (firmware 108) and 107(firmware 118) and I'm wondering if it hurts to overburn 2 minutes to a cdr? When I get ready to overburn I get a screen saying you may have errors at the end of the disc, but more importantly you may damage your writer. So is this safe with my Pioneers and if yes, how much can you actually overburn? Thanks!

Burning an extra 2 minutes onto an 80-minute CD-R? It can work, but will it work successfully? That depends. Nero gives you that attention notice because not all burners overburn well, and not all blank discs overburn well. You can certainly try though. From personal experience, I have been able to tap an extra 2 minutes from Ritek blank discs and an extra 3 minutes from Taiyo Yuden CD-R's. Once you complete the overburn, do a surface scan on the disc using Nero CD/DVD Speed. It'll find errors, if any exist.

I couldn't get it to work with 80 minute cd-r, I'll remember not to buy the cheap media TDK by CMC in the future although my Pioneers burn it fine. I guess it's not good enough to overburn with unless my Pioneers just don't. Thanks anyway.

no way, the only brand i know that can overburn 2minutes is
BenQ by Daxon Inc/Acer Multimedia

most can only overburn up to 81:40

if you overburn, the cd writer will fail in finalizing the cd for you, bcoz the space is insufficient, but its ok, if u don't finalize your CD-R, your Cd player will just play them fine

It all depends on the media and the writer. kotrtim has had luck with BenQ/Acer media in his drive (not quite sure which drive he used). I've had luck with Ritek and Taiyo Yuden media in my LG GCE-8320B and GCC-4320B.
